A new. club called the T. O. U. was
established in Vale upon the arrival
of the college boys last week. They
initiated several new members the
first day, and are still bringing in
new ones. The new order is said to
be a vital adjunct to either social or
business success and it is known to
be successful to the organizers.

this city on a visit to his relatives
the latter part of this week.
John O'Neill, of the Anderson
Gwinn ranch, was in this city the lat
ter part of this week.

students at the University of Oregon
arrived homo from Eugene Sunday
and will spend the vacation with his
home folks in Vale.
Several carloads of sportsmen went
from Vale Saturday, to spend a couple
of days on the various trout streams
in the adjacent mountains, and all
returned with well filled baskets.

Willard Edwards, while unloading x
lumber at the railroad yards the first
of the week, had his foot severely in- I
jured by falling lumber. The boy is
at present laid up at his home.
Ed Ten. Have, of Nyssa, was in the
city last Saturday.
After nearly a month's strenuous
effort on the part of a few energetic
fanners northeast of Vale, the mill
ditch in the west part of the city has
been filled, to the great delight of the
property owners who have property
adjoining the ditch.
Jas. Westfall, or Westfall, was a
Vale visitor Sunday.
Mrs. Reed, of Jamieson, returned
home Thursday, from a trip to Pen
dleton, visiting her son, Ford.
Miss Lois Cook made a trip to
Boise this week, and will return this
evening.
E. B. Duncan arrived in Vale from
Nyssa Sunday.
A CHURCH ON WHEELS
The Catholic chapel car "St Peter"
will arrive at Brogan Monday, June
19. A course of lectures on the teach
ings of the Catholic church Vill be
given, beginning Monday evening and
ending the following Sunday. Mass
Sundays 10 a. m. and week days 8
a. m. Questions placed in the ques
tion box will be answered before the
lectures.
At the close of the services at Bro
gan the car will be removed to Vale.

Mrs. R. E. Weant entertained with
a beautiful and delicious, luncheon,
Friday, June 9, in honor of her sister,
Mrs. I. C. Weant of Cascade, Idaho.
Five Hundred was enjoyed during tho
afternoon.
The Ladies Aid of the Christian
church, entertained at tho home of
Mrs. A. H. Chester on Friday after
noon, June 9th, with a linen shower
in honor of Miss Lois A.' Cook. About
twenty-five ladies were present. Dain
ty refreshments were served and en
joyed by all. Miss Cook received
many beautiful gifts, among which
was a Japanese luncheon set, a gift
of the Ladies Aid. '
Miss Lela Jones entertained Friday
evening with a "Miscellaneous Show
er" in honor of Miss Lois A. Cook.
Music and guessing games were en
joyed during the evening, Miss Myra
King winning the prize for the guess
ing contest A buffet luncheon was
served at eleven and. was enjoyed by
all present. Tho table was artistical
ly decorated in pink 'hearts suspend
ed from the chandeliers and the cen
ter piece being a basket of pink and
white mignonette surrounded with
green fern, peeping from out the cen
ter of the basket was a kewpie doll.
Tho gifts were delivered in a doll
buggy decorated in pink crepe paper,
ribbons and kewpies. Those present
were Misses Hope, Ridgley, Neely,
Loveland, Rose, Glenn. Coffman, King,
L. Jones, M. Jones, Childers, Cook,
Mrs. H. L. Anderson, Mrs. V. T. Her
rett and Mrs. Thomas Jones.

Jerry Hurley was at Skullspring the
other day looking for his horses which
he lost 2 months ago. He has been
unable to locate them so far and

other night happy as a lark but came
back sober as a judge. They asked
him what was the matter and ho said
he had lost his girl,

Archer was unfortunate in getting his
leg broken one day last week while
unhitching his team. They became
frightened and pulled the wagon over
him.
T. H. O'Neill and D. J. Worsham
met with an accident one day last
week while coming down what is
known as tho Campbell grade near
Malheur, in O'Neill's car. Tho car
became unmanageable and plunged
over the embankment Mr. Worsham
escaped uninjured, but Mr. O'Neill re
ceived some cuts and bruises about
the head and shoulders, they were
painful but not serious.
Mrs. L. E. Worsham visited Sunday
with Mrs. N. B. Matthiessen of the
Golden Eagle.

few warm days of tho past week have
brought Westfall out of it once more.
The farmers are beginning to pre
pare for haying.
There is going to be a great short
age in the first crop of alfalfa owing
to the cold weather and late frost
Felix Barkley, of Vale, has taken
charge of the Cane Field, ranch be
longing to tho P. L. S. Co.
The baseball gamo between West
fall and Drewsey was postponed ow
ing to the illness of our pitcher and
absence of first baseman.
Westfall will play Juntura friext
Sunday. Wo all hope the boys will

with Malheur two weeks ago.
Steve Woodward has been seen pi
loting a Ford around town tho past
few days. Guess Steve is going to
purchase a car.
George Taylor is once moro with
us, after his absence at school. Can't
see much change in George, only his
complexion.
Harry and Albert Kimo have been
busy building a houso for Russell
Zimmerman. Albert has been making
regular trips to Harper, looking after
business affairs I suppose.
Joe Coburn gave a social dance at
Harper last Saturday evening. There
was a nice little crowd went from
Westfall and all report having had
a nico time. Ice cream was served
by Mrs. Jack Welch.
Logan Barkley has spoken for a
job as flunky at Harper Hotel, but wo
konw Logan.

well and is now residing thereon.

turning it upside down,

Lias have been busy the past two
weeks putting in ditches to get water
to all parts of the Bigclow place.
Mrs. Witbeck made a trip to tho
Culbertson place last Saturday to
bring Mr. Witbeck home.
A. T. McDonald has completed
fencing 180 acres of land. He spent
part of last week in the bottom re
planting and harrowing his com.

ing down a position with the Snako

Levi Crull made a trip to Welser

Jewey Rice has gone to work for

Everybody is so busy there is but
