Harold R. Peat's great lecture, "The
Hope of Civilization," is a pica for a
more harmonious relationship among
the English-speaking peoples of the
earth, In the interest of humanity's
welfare. It will be delivered before
the Chautauqua Festival audiences on
the fourth night with all tho earnest
ness, enthusiasm and fire that char
acterized tho war talks of Mr. Peat,
then famous the world over as "Pri
vate Peat" war hero, journalist and
author.
Mr. Peat is a Canadian by birth,
but a large part of his busy career
has been spent this side of the bound
ary line. Last winter was spent in
New Zealand and Australia, where ho
was a "headliner" on tho Ellison
White circuits in those lands. You
will warm up to Harold Peat as you
seldom do to a public speaker. In
the parlance of the day, he "has tho
stuff."
Oklahoma Governor Denies Plot.
Oklahoma City, Okla. Governor J.
B. A. Robertson branded as a "das
tardly and damnable lie" charges filed
in district court at Okmulgee, Okla.,
against him, alleging that he released
a murder convict from the state peni
tentiary, "to kill tho county attorney
of Okmulgee county,"
City of Kelso Sued for $10,520.
Kelso, Wash Alleging that a "crazy
drunk" In the Kelso Jail beat him up,
Jesse H. Paulding of Castle Rock has
filed suit for $10,520 damages against
the city of Kelso.
Potato Prices uw.
Washington, D. C, Pricea of pota
toes have reached the bottom, accord
ing to the department of agriculture,
averaging only 20 to 30 cents a bushel
to growers In tho West and ranging
from 40 to 50 cents a bushel at east
ern shipping points. Some western
farmers are giving potatoes away to
anyono who will dig them and others
will not dig them.
