to meet them. Vale was represent
ed at the dinner by District Attor
ney Robert D. Lytle, Harry Ken
nard nnd Lloyd Riches.
In the early morning the commis
sion viewed the interstate bridge
and discussed plans for financing a
new structure. No definite con
clusion was reached and the matter
was taken under advisement. They
then proceeded to Baker over the
Old Oregon Trail.

The religious laws of Brahmnnlsm
divide the Hindu people in India Into
four principal hereditary classes or
custes the Ilruhmuns (priests).
Ksliutlyas (rulers and warriors),
vusluyus, (merchants and husband
men), and Sudras (mechanics, laborers
or servants), the first three being
known us "twiceboni" and the lust
us "once-born." These original four
castes, however, have become to
a great extent sub-divided the
men being known by their work
or trades, as Uie "caste" of shoe
makers and the "caste" of sweepers'
so that nowadays the Brahmuns alone
lire said to remain as a distinct caste.
Aside from all these are the Parluhs
(or outcasts) who have no caste. Ac-
cording to the Cyclopedia of India,
"The effect of the caste system Is
that no man may lawfully eat with
any individual of any other caste, or
partake of food cooked by him, or
murry Into another caste family; but
he may be his friend, his master, his
servant, his nurtner."
