T. Locy was born In Mlnornl Point
Wisconsin Septembor 18, 1835.
In 1840 with his fnthor ho crossed
tho plains In an ox team and sottloil
In Oregon City, Oregon; from thoro'
they moved to California In 1849
whoro Dr. Locy established a hos
pital In I860,, but his health falling
thoy returned' to Illinois and from
thoro thoy crossed tho plans ngaln
to Orogon City whoro Dr. I.ocy died
in 1853. Aftor tho death of his
fathor, Mr. Locy realizing tho nood
of an cducatlotl, and fully pro
fessod with tho ambition for tho
samo, constructed a wheelbarrow
nnd with what clothes and books ho
possessed, loaded thorn In nnd start

Aftor leaving tho University ho
worked for sovornl years on tho rlvor
Co." IIo was marrlod Jnnunry 1,
1800 to Miss Maria Morfltt of Oro
gon city.
In 1871 with his family ho moved
on a farm near Eldorado, Orogon,
whoro thoy lived for six yearn and
truo to his 1 1 f es principles, his first
thought was for tho spiritual wol
faro of tho pcoplo, accordingly ho
nnd his wlto organized nnd main
tained a Sunday School, which was
tho first Sunday School in Malheur
County.
In 1877 thoy moved to Ironsldo,
tholr present homo whoro thoy hnvo
lived continuously for tho"past 45
yours nnd whoro throughout tlioso
years thoy maintained a Sunday
School. Mr. Locy was n dovout
Christian nnd mombor ot tho Con
grcgntlonal Church and by tho con
slstnncy ot his Ufa mado his clirlst-
Jan Influonco felt far and wldo. To
say that Air. and Mrs. Locy aro
ploncors Is putting It inlldly, for
without tho oxporlouco no ono can
rcnlizo what It means to. go through
mnro than a half century of such
life. Tho first year In tholr now
homo thoy woro visited by n band
ot Indians docorated In war paint
and tonthors, but no damages was
ilono; howovor tho following year
thoy returned nnd woro obliged to
tnko rofugo In n log building, but
fortunatoly tho Indians passod with
out molostlng thorn nnd tho only.
deprodatlons committed woro among
tho freighters along tho road nnd
shoophoardors. When It became
known at hondqunrtors that thoy
woro on tho war path, Gonoral
Howard was sont . out with a
company ot soldlorB nnd rnundod
them up and roturned thorn to tho
Yakima Rosorvatlon.
When tho county wan dlvldod Mr.
Locy was appointed ono of its first
commissioners and filled tho offlco
faithfully always working for tho
good of tho county and tho best In
terest ot tho pcoplo. Dut his groat-
oat Intoroat was his work for tho
Master In tho spiritual wolfaro ot
tho community. Through his untir
ing effort? ho maintained not only
tho Sunday School, but much ot tho
tlmo preached services when no
mlulstor could bo obtalnod In tho
community whoro ho lived for nearly
n halt century, and In tho absonce
ot n minister Mr. Locy was called
upon to offlclato at tho burying ot
tho dead.
Ills homo was always opon to nil
who camo, or as tho proverbial say
ing Is, "tho latch string always
hung out" and no ono In all tho
years ovor went away without being
sholtorcd and fod.
Nino chlldron wero born to Mr.
and Mrs. Locy, four ot whom aro
living: Mrs, James Lackoy, Miss
Mary Locy, Fred Locy and Ernest
Locy. Dostdcs tho wife and mother,
Mrs. O. T. Locy, who Is now ! her
82ud year, and tho four children,
nlno grandchildren aro left to mourn
tho loss. Mr. Locy had been a
patient sufforor for many months,
and tho ond camo peacefully on
Saturday April 15, 1923, Tho floral
tributes, tho gift ot frlonds and loved
onos was tho most beautiful that
ovor wont out ot tho llttlo valloy, and
spoke as nothing olso could, tho love
and esteem in which ho was held.
Tho tunoral servicos conducted by
Ror. D. D. Reeso woro hold at tho
school houso at Ironsldo, which was
filled to its capacity by frlonds from
far and near who had gatborod to
pay trlbuto ot respect. Tho text
most fitting for the occasion was
taken from II Timothy 4:7-8 "I
have fought a good fight, I havo
finished my course, I havo kept tho
faith: Henceforth there is laid up
on mo a crown ot righteousness
which tho Lord tho righteous Judgo
shall give me at that day: and not
to mo only but Into all them also
that lovo his appearing,"
Ho was laid to rest in tho llttlo
comotory on the brow ot tho hill
ovor looking the valley he loved and
whero ho spent so many useful
years.
