who came to town from parts un

ovor to tho Grand Jury on a charge
of burlary last Saturday morning.
Two companions plckod with him by

Plckoring whon arrested was
found to have In hts possession two
rings and a wrist watch, tho pro
perty of Mrs. W. A. Morris who

California avenuo whoso homo was
entored on Friday morning during
her absence and tho jewelry stolen.
Pickerings' arrest was mado pos
sible by the accurate description
furnished by Miss Helen Isocount,
of tho prowler she Interrupted In an
atiompt to entor tho Drecount home
that morning. Miss Drecount who
was at home alono heard soma one
knock on the front door ot their
home and waited sometime before
answering the knock. When sKo
went to the front of tho houso the
man was coming In, but turned and
ran whon ho was discovered.
When tho Morris robbery was ro
ported to the police Marshal Farmer
visited tho neighborhood to learn
It prowlers had been seen and got
the description ot tho man who at
tempted to enter the Drecount
homo, the description was so ac
curate that he picked up Pickering
and found the Morris' Jewelry upon
him.
With Pickering were two other
men, one ot whom It was learned
had attempted to pawn tho wrist
watch at Henry Miller's store. A
vag charge was lodged against Pick
erings pals and they are being in
vestigated. Miss Ethpl McNulty Is suffering
this week from a rase of tonsllltls
and Mlse Marie Frost of Oregon

Ontarlp recently to Inspoct the 'work
that Is being done by tho Hauser
Construction Company on the
bridges across the Malheur two
miles north ot town, and across
Jacobsen's Oulch, and Incidentally
they mentioned a fact that has
hlthorto boen unknown to the peo
plo of this section.
They said that the bridge across
the Malheur Is unique among the
bridges of the West, In this fact
that It has with one exception the
longest concroto spans to be found
anywhere, and It has more long con
crete spans than any bridge, In Oregon.

and Improved plans longer
spans are possible ,
The ono span In the state which
exceeds that of the six spans across
the Malheur Is that on Myrtle creek
which Is 53 feet in length.

will be completed about October 1.

Henry Clinton Wilson, familiarly
known to Ontario people as "Grand
pa" Wilson dlod suddenly at his
homo on tho East side, Monday
morning, September 19th, ot npo
ploxy.
Mr, Wilson was apparently In
good hoalth, and after eating his
breakfaBt was sitting In his easy,
chair when death ovortook htm.
Mr. Wilson was born In Lawrenco
County Arkansas, sovonty-seven
years ago. He loaves throo children
and a numbor of grandchildren to
mourn his death. A daughter Mrs.
Trent Johnson ot Vale and a grand
daughter, Mrs, Shlpples of. Dolse, ar
rived yesterday to make funeral ar
rangements, Mr. Wilson has lived
for the past soven years In Ontario
and haB mado a host ot friends. He
was a member of the Arlington Ma
sonic Lodge ot Oklahoma City and
a member of the G, A. R. being a
retired pensioner.
The funeral services, under the
auspices of the Acasta Lodgo of
Ontario will be held front, tho Ma
sonic Hall today'at 2 o'clock.
