TO SURVEY ROAD TO INTERIOR In all probability the forest service will be able to make a reconnaiss ance survey across Whitman Nation al Forest, from Prairie city In Grant county, to Unity In Baker county, according to Information received from District Forester Cecil of Port land by State Engineer Lewis. This is a connecting link in a pro posed foute branching from the Co lumbia river highway and running through the John Day country via Fossil, Canyon City, Unity and to the Idaho line at Ontario. Senator Lorlng V. Stewart has been the moving spirit In promoting the ndnptlon of this road, and has inter ested the counties of Gilliam, Orant, Baker and Malheur in a survey by the state engineer definitely locating the route. Grant county has already set aside $3000 for this purpose and It Is expected the other counties ben efiting will assist In ta substantial manner. Mr. and Mrs. John Dunphy enter tained pleasantly at their home on Monday evening the G. G. O. girls and beneficiaries in honor of her house guest, Miss Nena Balfe, of Denver. There was nothing to mar the pleasure of the evening except the contemplated departure of two of the members.
