Some have begged the County Court for poison Others have been killing rabbits It Is dead rabbits that we want, for dead rabbits are good rabbits, and we do not caro how we got him dead 00 The live rabbit Is a menace to every one, for he ruined the dry farmer, thinned the range and Is now eating the hay for the stockmen, after oach pair had given their numerous fami lies a good start upon the rich green alfalfa fields in the early summer. Yes, everyone was hit by the jack rabbits and will be hit again unless everyone fights him now while he Is within easy reach. Borne localities have wiped hltn ont already, and each locality can if they will, and there la no time like the present while the deep snow Is on. There are tw,o methods that have been used with big success In each case. One Is the use of poly ,ne,i aifaita and the o'be- to line cnlrken wire fencing In form a trap of the staek yards II ,th irr'.iniD un be practiced to good iidwintii.e, ami the latter especltlly y ..' tlons during the last throe Weeks hae emu nice. I me th.it M,. ,e two methods If practiced will keep the rabbits in control. The poUon ;,ur Chased by the County Court In con junction with the State has be. n , w en out for experiments! purposes and returns have been teeel e from purl of it and the resu't'i of prhate work noted, also. The poison that gave the best re sults Is the I s lliireati of lllology formula. This Is made by brewing or cutting the whole alfalfa plun in to about two inch lengths, and xprluklclng MM pounds of this with two gallons of water In which while hot one ounce of strychnine has been dissolved (Strychnine sul- phate) This must not be scattered In- dlscrlmlnately. Find the places where the rabbits are congregating nro keeping abreast tho times so In large numbers, or where they have ' t all th" JO I thlt.gs that are made hard well beaten trails, an. I at coming their these points erect corrals If stock are ' There may be few vho would runnliig around Halt them for a w,", to Join this aasoi lutlon. A oned hay can be beat put nut In small ' tester usually testa omS liorl each handfuls along the hard beaten trails. 'dyi or where two small herds are The Alfalfa Heights farmers werinMr each other he may be able to able to kill about 700 hundred rati- '! them both In one day. From bit at one point and about two bun- ,lllH 'u can see that It Is necessary dred In another with lots of fifteen " have about 26 herd in the assocl- ounces of poison, and undoubtedly many rabbits were hid by the sageiO'elr herds for one year, and then brush, and snow that fell during the come together and form a simple or- nlght On upper Willow Creek where poisoned grain was used, they did not get as good results, A trap made by putting up wire netting around the stack yards leav- Ing an opening on the side toward which you wish to approacli the stack yard, for the rabbits to enter haajtMt " figures out the monthly pro- been the lilg result getter on I'pper lllow Creek and In the Jamlson Drugan country Three hundred rab bits were killed In one of these trapa one morning near Jamison, and large numbers for several mornings follow ing Another trap yielded up over two hundred one morning. Small orchard fenced for a trap on fpper Willow creek yielded up so many that I will not publish It for fear It will be doubted Every where that I visited these traps I have found the rabbits in piles. Several localities have practically wiped the rabbits out while others are simply sitting still and waiting for help Instead of helping them seltes. Let everyone get busy todut and fence the stuck yards whether foil are simply a stockman feeding the hay or the owner of the ranch, for it is to the interest of eveiiin. to get rid of the rabbits In the up per country they have been working hard killing them by drives ami pols on and traps, now le t the people down here In the valley get busv If you do not get busy now and kill rabbits, do not bowl next summer when the rabbits come in to get his daily feed The rabbits that are now living are the seed for next summer It is useless to try to control the rab bits after tiiey have nultiplied many times. There are several good reasons, but there is one which distinguishes Royal from other baking powders. This reason, which every woman should know, is that Royal Baking Powder is made from cream of tartar, which comes from grapes. This means a healthful fruit origin. It means natural food as distinguished from mineral substitutes used in other baking powders. There is no alum nor phosphate in Royal Baking Powder. ROYAL BAKING POWDER CO New York COW TESTING ASS'N TO BE FORMED Ontario, Ore, Feb. 9.- Editor Ar gus. Several weeks ago Mr. Ki irll, 1' 8. field dairyman. was In this coun ty wltli me going over the situation with reaped to forming a cow test ing association It Wii necessary in order to procure enough herds hating n sufficient number of cows to on lu.le eeral li.nl- nn the i mm. ii OOUt i-hle iii the river. Th tester calls once each month, I weighs the milk night and iimming, ductlun, liulances the feed, ami of era any suggestion to Hie dairyman that he thinks would be helpful. The tester should also be a source of gen eral information along dairy lines There are at the present time over three hundred' associations In the fulled Slates, ami twenty-three of 'heee are in Oregon. This large 'number showa how important they ear to the dairymen 'the associations allow that the average cow gives but about one hundred and fifty pounds of butter fat. and that any herd can by culling out the boarders and by proper grading up, to rulse this to titer ihree hundred pounds in three to seven years. The results of these testing as sociations are so generally known thai l do not believe It Is necessary to dwidl further upon this subject l wish every dairyman to know that next week Mr. Kehrli will return to help np get the dairymen tnKither to form tills association, and I wish any one that Is Interested in this proposition that we did not visit to get in touch with me Immediately , for we do not desire to have to leave any one out that It is pussible to Include.
