It will irt the readera of the Argus to watcli the advertising columns closely. t they would profit by the unusual bargains and advantages of fered therein from time to time. The HetuLWeekly. Indicative of the general steady growth and advancement of Ontario and this section of the Snake Kiver Valley, is the appearance of the Argus as a semi-weekly newspaper, publish ed on Tuesday and Friday of each week, instead of only on Thursday. aa heretofore. The management of the Argus la glad that the change is possible, and we are glad to be in a community progressing ao rapidly as la this Truly it has been said that a news paper is a mirror of the community which it represents, reflecting accur ately the true conditions. It speaks exceedingly well for the community, that, at a time when there is a well defined business depreaaion through out the country, that a newspaper in this community can advance from a weekly to a semi-weekly publication Such a move is not possible except m a community where there is a real , call for it-where business conditions are such that there ta a real need for a paper published more often than once a week. Ontario has reached that atage. She Is fast outgrowing Is This "Hard Ttmee?" Business conditions In Ontario were never better than at the pre sent time, and the outlook for the future was nover brighter Two of the leading merchants of the city stated that their business laat week was the greatest in their history Another merchant stated that last week lie experienced one day'a busl ness that was greater than any day's business ever before recorded In his establishment, and his establishment is one of the oldest in this section of the state. There is a general belief with many that Ontario will experience a de pression after January 1, when the saloons quit busings There may be a depresaton, but no ;uan can ac curatelv foretell such an event. All opinions are based upon theory, ind until th time comes no one can SO, certain of any business depression ' Tlieie are many things just now. however, which point very at rough toward the contrary of a depreaaion Our banks are both advertialng that their deposits are the greatest ever known. Business houses of the city the village standards Her business ere claiming more and better nuainess flrma have noted a steady growth for ,thn ever known before, and are pre the past several yeara. New people Psr'n 'or an Increase next year. and more people are steadily Increas ing the bualneMi responalbllitlea of the city and her merchants, and the city and her merchants have not been found wanting, when the call has been made. The Argua haa continually shown that spirit of progress which is in keeping with the city as a whole We are not now shirking our duty when the call la made for a aemi-weekly newspaper For the preaent. at leaat Building operations in the city are certainly not on a decline Two ne brick store buildings are now under construction And the builder of thim is a man who is a careful atud ent of the poestbllities of the city ; n.ere buildings are being built fo rent, and the bateBtf ll reasonably sure there will be a demand for them despite the fact that four buildings will be vacant January 1, by reaaou of the death of the aaloon huainesa I'AHKNT-TKArllKRH ANHS.
