of the Committee of One Hundred, an

a law to prohibit the use of liquor
In the home or to put unreasonable

He said he would do this In order to
"keep faith with the people."

the measure to be submitted to the

Portland. An average of 30 persons
are killed every year In Oregon while
trespusstng on railroad property, and
to prevent. In a measure, these act
dents, the Public Safety Commission
has gone on record as favoring
the passage of a law by the legislature
strictly prohibiting such trespass.

Douglss County at War With Small
Pox. Roseburg. An epidemic of small
pox Is threatening Douglas county, and
strenuous watching and quarantining
by In- K I. Miller, the county health
officer, Is all that has kept the dis
ease within limits thus far. In Hoae
burg there have been two cases, now
convalescent.
Unemployment Law Topic.
Corvallls. The discussion of unem
ployment legislation that la to be a
conspicuous part of the special ses
sion of the Commonwealth Conference
at the University of Oregon December
10, 11 and 12 apparently will be of
coast wide scope. A. H. Grout, labor
commissioner of the city of Seattle,
has been authorised by the Seattle
city couucll to attend. Mr. Grout will
have a paper oil "I'nemployment Leg
islation for Washington." E. W. Ol
son, state labor commissioner of Wash
ington, also has been Invited.
K. Q. Young, professor of sociology
at the University of Oregon, who Is a
mem her of the legislative committee
on unemployment named by the last
commonwealth conference, says close
relationship should exlat between Ore
