A son was born to Mr. and Mrs., C.
V. Mitchell on the 28th.
Mrs. Oliver has returned from a trip
to Portland and the Basin and will be
here for the winter months.
A. McWilliams was here the first of
the week with a couple of cars of horses
and has gone to the interior for another
lot.
The youngsters did little damage on
Hallowe'en. A few misplaced side
walks and overturned houses was about
all.
Lost- A purse, containing a little
money, finder will please return purse
to this office and keep the money.
The farmer of today reads the papers
and refuses to invest in "gold bricks",
but he steps up to the polls and votes
for the candidate who promises the im
possible, just as he always did.
Victor Brookover has been checked
out as express agent and bagageman
and a new man is in his place. Brook
has given the people of Ontario excell
ent service and they regret to see him
go aa good officials are very scarce. The
new man is certainly a grouch.
The city council transacted the usual

that gave birth to 18 piga this week.
This is about the largest litter we have
ever heard of, and especially from a
young sow. Mr. Cain drew a few prises
at the Payette chicken show on his leg
horns. C. P. Chamberlin, of the O. W. R. ft
N. Co., was here today meeting with
local ipeople. Mr. Chamberlin Bay a

market, while that of the south is de

Walter Powers, of Vale, haa taken

ing to have a stage line established and
a ware house erected at Brogan to ac

Mrs. Jos Staples gave a very pretty
party at her home on Saturday after
noon from 2 until 6 o'clock in honor of
Eliiabeth Staples, announcing her en
gagement to W. K. Shinn.
The house was decorated in Hallow
e'en colors.
Refreshments were served and games
and dancing were enjoyed by LaRose
and Edith Bailey, Emma McGivern
Clarice Canfield, Lela Jones, Sheila Lac
key, Edith Husted, Erne Orcutt, Vema
Jaquish and Artie Lee, of Caldwell.
A new mail route has been establish
ed out of Weiser covering part of the
Dead Ox Flat.
