I'ayetto JiHlopemleut: Under
the caption of "For Our Fair
City", Inst week's issue of the
Ont'trio Democrat contained a
remarkable editorial. Remark
able for several things, but par
ticularly in thnt it tries to make
a "scape goat" of u girl, charac
terized as having more con
science than experience." It
Beems that this girl, whoever
she ih, wrote an editorial in the
absence of the editor. That
edi(oria) contained among other
things this: "We must expect
the world to measure the moral
caliber ol our official" by things
whicb happen in our city, and
we take it as the duty of every
citizen to belp protect thqse in
authority."
Now that doesn't sound to us
like the giggling of a silly little
creature who knows nothing of
tho ways of the world, hut
rather it sounds like a pretty
good sort of philosophy. But
the worst of it all iB that after
the girl "with more conscience
than experience" had raised
the question, and the question
had been settled because she
raised it, the Democrat says:
"The citizens who brought the
matter to the attention of the
prosecutor havo done their
duty." Our hat is off to the
girl. And the Democrat could
do no handsomer thing just
now than to apologize to the
her for apologizing to its read
rrs for what she said in that
editorial.
