Hughs o f Astoria were grieved to
hear o f his death on November 1.
Eugene, the small son o f Mr. and
Mrs. E. J. Harrison, was taken to
Stayton tfie first o f the week where
Dr. Brewer lanced and dressed an ab­
scess on his head. Eugene had suf­
fered a bump on his head about a
week ago and as a re u!t the abscess
formed.
Mr. and Mrs. Sloan, Mr. and Mrs.
J. M. Bones and children, Ruth and
Keith, motored to Eugene, Sunday,
and spent the day with their daugh­
ters, who are seniors in the P. C.
hospital. W’ hile there they also visited
Errol Sloan and Chas. H. Bones, who
are seniors in the University o f Ore­
gon.

There would be no such thing as
law and order without good street
lighting. This is the opinion o f Ed­
ward Pierce Mulrooney, police com­
missioner o f New York city.
“ Good street lighting is as effective
a-: good policemen,” Mulrooney says, ,
recalling the days o f dimly lighted j
street when po!ic< men "came to grief ;
on their beats because it was almost i
worth anyone’s life to venture out
alone at night.”
The ladies o f the Catholic parish o f
Stayton are making big preparations
fo r a Thanksgiving turkey dinner to
be served at the Foresters Hall, Stay-
ton on Thanksgiving day.
The charge fo r the dinner is 50c
fo r adults and 35c for children. Fol­
lowing the dinner the afternoon will
