Turkey Hen Mother to Chick*
A turkey hen belonging to
Cal Small hatched a brood of
turkeys early in the summer
which she weaned early. She
tried three or four times later
to bring another brood of tur
keys into the world but was
broken up by her owner. Final
ly she stole her nest along the
road near the Purdy’place and
not long ago came strutting in
to the home yard with 2 white
leghorn chickens following her.
It is supposed that a hen laid
in her nest and as chickens
hatch about a week sooner
than turkeys she didn’t wait
for the turkey eggs to hatch
but brought her chickens home
as soon as they hatched.
