CHEMAWA
LEAGUE GAMES START.
The Willamette Valley Basketball
League season opened on Saturday night
and as a slight celebration of the event,
the Collegians from the McMinnville
institution journeyed to the camp of the
locals and snowed us under to a 45-13
score. The score at the end of the first
half was 20 to 6 in the Collegians’ favor,
but the prospects were yet bright for
victory for the locals, as thev in this
half played like a bunch of beginners
and seemed a little bewildered at the
frisky actions of the lads from “ Mack.”
And this looked more true at the be
ginning of the latter half when the lo
cals scored before tbe visitors knew
what happened. But the unexpected
loomed up and the visitor« «oon began
to show their superiority and put up a
classy exhibition of basket throwing.
This continued with the locals fighting
gamely unt il the half ended and the
above «core stood as official.
The referee was kept busy calling
fouls, and this of course, made the game
slower than it would have been had they
not been made and called.
The McMinnville team was well train
ed in team work and made every shot at
a basket count, and while the locals
loomed up fairlv well in team work the
basket shooting was of the zero grade.
If we are to be defeated again we hope
it will be by a team of gentleman as the
McMinnville team proved to be. They
were good-natured plavers and showed
a gentlemanly conduct both on and off
the floor.
Tonight we play the Dallas College
team, one of the best on the coast, and
as our team has improved greatly in
team work and basket throwing since the
game recorded above, they will, with the
AMERICAN
help of the pupils’ enthusiasm, make the
Collegians from the Dallas location go
some to win out.

Tn the second half, Haight took Sortor’s
place at guard, and near the end of tbe
2° me Capt. Luther Clements, after per
forming the pretty plav of knocking the
ball in the ha«k°t while jumping with
an opponent, sprained his ankN while
alighting from the leap that be made to
do the stunt. He was disabled and
Nelson replaced him a« forward.

DOME^TiC SCIENCE NOTES.
The eighth grade girls are working in
the domestic scienc department and are
showing up splendidly i t th Q work re
quired.
The girl« of the department are pay
ing special attention to table manners
and a pennv is the penalty imposed for
each violation of thee" standing itiles.
At the end of the month the detail will
have a spread with the money derived
from this source, but from, present in
dications, the spread will not be a very
elaborate one, as the fund in the treas irv
is not exceedingly large
The dining room at the domestic
science department is the home of some
very beautiful plants. A geranium is now
in bloom and a cactus, which, during
Christmas was covered with blossoms, is
continuing to bloom.
