THE CHEMAWA AMERICAN 3 LOCALS i Merry Christmas! Mr. and Mrs. Campbell spent Friday and Saturday in Portland. Miss Irene Campbell arrived home Monday evening from a trip to Salem. Dr. Fulkerson and Mr. Cooper went to Portland on Wednesday to purchase the Christmas supplies for the pupils. Mrs. Douglas arrived at Chemawa a few days ago from Phoenix, Arizona. She is here in the capacity of nurse. Mrs. Chilcraft was quite ill a few days ago, but i3 now much improved and is agpin attending the duties of her house hold. Nellie and Christine Boswell left yes terday for their home in Cordova, Alas ka. They left many young friends be hind them. Work on the small boys' home is pro gressing nicely and in time the little chaps will be in most comfortable quar ters of their very own. We enjoyed a few mornings during the first of the week which seemed to in dicate the presence of Mr.. Jack Frost. The air was delightfully crisp about 6 a. m. Sunday is Christmas and millions of children in Christendom will be rejoiced on this great holiday. Some are already on the tip-toe of anticipation and can "almost'' hear the bells tinkling on old Santa's reindeer now. Happy child hood! Soon the time will have passed and we hope only pleasant memories will remain. Last Friday and Monday the girls of the school were allowed to go to Salem to do their Christmas shopping. Tues day and Wednesday the boys had their turn at the Capital. The youngsters all had money and spent it for themselves and their friends. We often wonder if the business people of Salem have any thing like an adequate idea of the mon ey left them yearly by Chemawa pupils. Mrs. Reuben Saunders is still in the hospital in Salem, where she has been for a couple of weeks. She certainly has had a serious time of it of late. First she had a very serious attack of cold. When nearly recovered from that she became a victim of ptomaine poison ing; then came an attack of appendicitis of most serious form. An operation be came necessary and was performed. We are pleased to state that she is get ting along nicely and hopes that she will soon be in good health are again entertained. Geo Perry has entered the tailor shop The gardeners sorted the apples this week. Have you noticed John Horn's college hair cut? Mr. Mitchell made the ice cream on Tuesday. The paint and lumber house is almost completed. Thos Cox has been added to the kitch en detail. We are all glad to see Thos. Cox back in school again. The farmers are busy plowing behind the school building. Arthur Van Pelt made himself a pair of basketball trousers on Saturday. Those who are attending school in Salem are enjoying a week's vacation.
