Miss Juana Holmes, who has been the guest of Miss Skipton of late, return ed to her home in Portland a few days ago. Mrs. Saunders, who has been in the Salem hospital during the past week, a victim of ptomaine . poisoning, is report ed to be getting along very nicely. Supt. and Mrs. Chalcraft entertained those who took part in the "chamber music'' program on last Saturday at "The Cottage" after the. . conclusion of the program. The first team of basketball boys went to Mt. Angel and played the Mt. Angel College team on Wednesday evening. The score was 29 to 13 in fovor of Mt. Angel. Mr. Larsen went along in charge of the boys. Mr. Mordaunt Goodtiough, wh ap peared as piano soloist at the "chamber muric evening" last Saturday certainly proved himself to be a superb artist. We have a partial promise that he will appear here again at some of these musicales. That he was appreciated by all those presen there is ample proof. The members of the Chemawa Rod and Gun Club had a good "chicken shoot" last J-aiurday afternoon and we expect that some of them enjoyed cocka leekie for dinner on Sunday. Now that they have pulled off a successful "chick en shoot" we are told that they have aspirations for turkeys and geese. The friends of Miss Pearl Roberts and Mr. Larsen were much pleased by the skillful work evidenced by them on piano and 'cello respectively during the "chamber-music" concert last Saturday even ing. Both did well with the difficult parts assigned them and no fault could be found with their intelligent inter pretation. ' A number of post cards have been re ceived at Chemawa during the past week from Fortunato Jayme. Fortunato left Chemawa on September 28 for his Phil ippine home. The cards from him were dated Nov. 1, at Manila, which city he reported as having improved during the ten years which he spent at Chemawa. Fortunato still had some distance to go ere he reached t he home of his childhood. BREVITIES Buford Spencer has entered the plumb er shop. Albert Griffin has been added to the garden detail. John Horn is now working on the kitchen detail. Last Saturday George Kross and Au relius Talbot went to town and each bought a derby hat. For a tirst-class hair cut go to Reggie Downie. For sample look at Willie Service and Harry Busby's cuts. Miss Grear took a number of girls out to pick some Oregon grape on last Sun day. They had a very enjoyable walk. The following promotions were made in A company: Geo. Kross from 2nd Lieut, to 1st Lieut.; E. Anderson from 1st sergeant to 2nd Lieut.; Levi Sortor from 1st duty sergeant to 1st sergeant, and Mliton George from the ranks to 4th sergeant.
