Mrs. Hodge arrived at the school on
Wednesday evening from Snohomish,
Wash., for a visit with -her children.
Mrs. Lyman, and old-time friend of
Mrs. Brewer whose residence is in Port
land, was at the school a-few days last
week and was the guest of the latter
while here.
Mr. Weddle, who wa at one time
aent of the Southern Pacific in Che
mawa, is again here in this capacity,
having heen placed here by the company
on the departure of Mr. Condit. Mr.
Weddle comes from Jefferson, Oregon,
his home.
Mr. Levitt Singleton, a cousin of Mrs.
Fulkerson, was here a few days this week
visiting the latter and her husband, Dr.
Fulkerson. Mr. Singleton is from Indi
ana and is making a tour of the West.
He is treasurer for one of the railroad
companies in Indiana and is a very
pleasant gentleman. ,
, Mr Ross Condit, who for a number of
months has been agent at Chemawa for
the S. P. R. R. Co., was transferred on
Wednesday to Portland, wmere he will
have a position in the office of the su
perintendent of the Oregon lines of this
company. He goes at considerable in
crease of salary. While at Chem iwa
Mr. Condit made many friends whose
good wishes for his success in his new
field of activitv will follow hi.n.
The Spinner Family is a new book
that Miss Dohse brought from the Salem
library for supplementary work in na
ture study for the second grade.
Ask Bob Horn about the air ship cross
ing the Atlantic. He is well informed
on the subject.
For good behavior ten littie boys in
the second grade were given a candy x
pull by their teacher last week. Their
names follow: Bob Horn, Axel John
son, Emil Freeman, Deacon Lawton,
George Craig, Sayres McAlphin, Dave
White, Wm. Johnson, Edwin Lilligren
and Eddie Bartlett.
SECOND GRADK.
The 2nd grade pupils are interested
in the flight of Wellma n's air ship across
the Atlantic.
PUPILS' ITEMS.
Thos. Williams is now working in the
bakery and is a fine bread maker.
The band boys are looking forward to
having a good band this year by means
of practice.
John Steel has been relieved as fire
man at the academic bulding and is now
in the engineroom.
The gardeners are busy hauling apples
which they are going to keep for Winter
use to the root house.
The first and second football teams
are practicing every evening after school.
Harry Jones is the second team quarter
back.
A letter has been received from Eliza
Charles of Howkan, Alasks, who is ex
pecting to come to Chemawa in the near
future.
A letter was received from Dorothy
Talbot saying she would soon return to
school. We will be glad to have her
with us again. ,
Bertha Spencer works in the dining
hall and she is the best worker there.
Some day she is to have a nice big house
with a nice clean table and dishes in it.
