He found that it was at first thought to be all of one color. To Homer, he says, the rainbow seemed purple white. At a later period Xeno phon saw in. it "a purple cloud, red and yellow green." Two centuries after this Aristotle distinguished three colors red, green and blue and was able sometimes to see yellow between the red and green.
