Ladies and Gentlemen: In behalf of the cl ass of 1910 I extend to you a most cordial welcome to our commencement. It is a pleasure to see so many of you willing to come out and witness our graduating exercises this evening. It assures us that you are our friends and we know that there are those present who have confidence in us. who take an interest in our future welfare and are desirous of seeing the Tndian race forge its way to the front and be come one with the American people. This day marks an important change in our lives. We who have been so closelv united as a class are together in that relation for the last time. You have come out here to see what Chemawa has made of us what we have accom plished, While we welcome you with gladness, we are not entirely happv our selves, for we realize that our part in the school life of Chemawa is about over. Some of us will go awav from here and work at our trades some of us will con tinue going to school, hut not at Che mawa. Other schools and colleges of the Northwest will enroll a few of the class of 1910 as students. We have worked dav in and davout in order to obtain the position we occunv here this evening have longed for the time to come when one of us could stand before you and bid - you welcome to our commencement The davsof our endeavor have been davs of hard work, dav? of sacrifice, when obedience was often an effort, only possible through the conquest of self, in which we have been aided bv our faithful teacher. The natural wildness of vouth had to be overcome in order to attain the coveted diploma for which we have . so earnest ly strived. But how glad we are we ptayed with it to the end. Many of us will, T fancy, be separated from each other forever, but the friend ships we have formed in this school and in this eomnuimtp will last through our lives. As a class we will try to live up to our motto, "STEADFAST AND TRUE." ('Continued on paze i.)
