Chemawa Indian School Chemawa is located on the main line l(f the Southern Pacific railroad five mil north of the City of Salem, the capitui .f Oregon. U is the only Indian industrial pchool in the northwest corner of the Unit ed States where you can get an industrial education, Many Indian young men, who were graduated from Chemawa, have pood positions as blacksmiths, mill men, tailors, engineers, electricians, farmers, and many ether businesses earning a pood living for themselves, TheOregon Electric R. R., which has sixteen trains daily between Salem and Portland, passes through Chemawa, In point of location, climate, resources, panitation and environment, Chemawa is unexcelled, Its grounds are eov-red with roses, are extensive and dotted with 11 Oregon fir which are green the en lire year The schnol has been called "The Rose School " It has 841 acres of as fine ag ricultural land ps there is in the United States. Has over 40 acres of prolific or .chard and the fruit of this is very abun dant, produoing enormous quantities The buildings are all modern and up to-date and the Industrial departments are unexcelled, To Thos WlsKltigf to Snter the Chem ;chael Pleas Read Carefully. 1. AH pupils must be at least, one fourth Indian; healthy and of good moral character. 2. AH new pupils must be fourteen yar of age or over. 3 If you live on a reservation or are "''Her the supervision of an Agent or Snpenntenbent, you must apply to him for transfer and railroad tickets. This should be done immediately and w:ue the Superintendent of Chemawa thai you have done so. 4. If you are not on a reservation, yon should write Supt. Edwin U. Chalcraft, Chemawa, Oregon, and tell him about yourself, age, tribe, etc. He will then send you application blanks and order for tickets, if you are eligible for enroll, ment, 5, Chemawa has an Industrial equip ment and facilities, surpassed by none and equaled by few schools in the Ser vice. The trades taught are as follows: The girls are taught to be good housekeepers, to which is added special instruction in Dressmaking, Tailoring and Nursing. The School has a Domes tic Science Department, The boys are taught Farming, Dairying, Gardening, Carpentering, Wagonmaking, Black smithing, Shoe and Harness Making, Tailoring, Baking. Steam and Electrica1 Engineering, and Plumbing. 6, Chemawa has exceptional adyan-. tageg for giving instruction in farming, dairying, gardening and in the car of orchards, and with her engineering facilities' is unequaled, 7. The Chemawa Band has a reputa tion extending over the entire Pacifio Coast. . Boyft who have had band in struction in other schools are especially desired to continue their music a Che mawa.
