THE CFIEMAWA AMERICAN 7 gands and thousands of people are siving their lives in teaching the people of this coantry, from the kindergarten children of four years of age up to the col ege senior. Thousands and hundreds of thousands of men and women are giving their lives to teaching, the noblest work that any one can do, I care not whether jt js in the school or in the shop, in the industrial, domestic or medical depart, nient, the noblest work that a man or women can do is to teach. Thousands and hundreds ot thousands of people are engaged in that work, for you as Indian bovs and girls, and the different races of people in this country What does it all mean? What are the students who fire in tbpse schools doing? What is the purpose? Now I am ready to give you the word "Preparation" which means getting ready, prepare or preparing. Get the thought. That is what you are here for. That is what all these good people are here for; it is to help you to prepare. Now I get back to my first thought, if you fully realize what life is to you and to me, or if you can onlv partially realize, then the work becomes a real pleasure; the work that you may do, the training that you may get as you push the plane, as you sew the gar ment, as you work on the farm, as you work in the kitchen, as you wrork in your shop, as you study in the classroom, wherever you may be, the hours that you put in at the work, of preparation, if you appreciate all that life is to mean to you, these hours are the greatest pleasures to you. I hope you realize what life is to bring to yon, then it makes your school life joys and pleasures to you indeed. It means that your school life will be more successful, and that you will do better work if you have a realiz ation of what it means. I wuuldn't want to think that anyone of you were here studying and working simply with the idea of fitting yourself for the purpose of simply helping your selves, that would be a very selfish pur pose, but I do Want you to realize that you are here yetting an education for purpose of preparing yourself, get ting that training yourself in order that you may be of use and able to help others. . I would indeed be sorry to feel that any of you were only preparing yourself here in order to go out and earn a good salary7, buy good clothes, good things' to eat and to enjoy life generally. I want to say to you that to really enjoy life is by helping others to enjoy life. This old world would be indeed an unpleasant place to live if we all had that selfish purpose. Teaching is one of the greatest things anyone could do. Each and every one of you are teachers in a sense. All, that you do each day is teaching others, we are all teachers, we want, therefore1, to teach and to lead others into the right way of living. In order to be useful and helpful in the world, you. must prepare thoroughly, if you go out with out that thorough preparation you will not be able to meet your responsibilities successfully. Then remember the last thought, that it is not simply for self , that you are making this preparation, but that you may be helpful in the world, that you may help others. Do well yourself, but At the same time you may help others, not live the selfish life, but be able to live the unselfish life. You cannot all be teachers in the class room or in the shops, but you can be teachers on your farm, in your homes, and wherever you may be cast when you leave school,, you will all have op portunities to teach others what you yourself have learned. I certainly appreciate this opportun ity of being with you and of speaking to you. Before closing, I want to cau- . tion you not to lose nny hours or min utes even, not to idle away any time, but to be up and doing, thoughtful at all times, making the most of life every day. Our boys attended the Commence-., ment exercises of the Dallas College last Tuesday and after the exercises played the College team. The score ending 12 u 3 against us.
