Krnest Brewer was a Chemawa visiter

Mr. and Mrs. Vick made a flying trip
to the school.
Mr. Carl Plucker of Umatilla made a
cjrt visit to the school this week.

makes one feel that life is worth living.

Mrs. Brewer and a number of friends

Mr Chalcraft took some very good
photos of our seven-foot field of rye hay.
Boliver killed his first rat on Thurs
day and showed that he will be a good
ratter.
Mr Enright made a hurried visit to
Willamina the other day on business for
the school.
The junk men were on hand this week,
taking away some of our accumulated
junk which was so'd to the highest bid
der. The American is in receipt of an in
vitation to attend the commencement ex-,
ercises of Sherman, which will be held
May 15 to 19 inclusive. .
Mr. Henderson is making extensive
improvements to he front of his store.
When completed it will look quite city
like with the large open front.
The friends of Dr.. W Q. Tucker were
glad to see him on Wednesday when he
dropped in on Chemawa for a short
visit. The Doctor is located at Forest
Grove, this State.
We play the strong Mt. Angel base
ball team tomorrow afternoon. We
will have a double-header game, the sec
ond game oeing played by the Kaiser
School against Woodburn.
Mr. Swartz has finished cutting our
spring rye this week and he brought some
of it to the office which was an average
sample of the yield. It measured 7 ft.
3 in in height, not including the roots.
Who can beat it?
Mrs. Elizabeth Leudke-Smith has been
reinstated , in the service .as Assistant
Matron at Standing Rock, where she and
her husband are located. Mr. Smith
was Asst. Engineer here wh.Ie Mrs.
Smith was one of our teachers.
The morning pupils were caught in a
shower on Tuesday at recess. Right af
ter they were dismissed it began to rain
and some of them were like the man we
have read about who "did'nt have sense
enough to get in out of the rain."
The school had a short visit from Mrs.
Lamereaux of Seattle this week. Mrs.
Lamereaux was Miss Elsie Murphy,
who was matron of Chemawa during the
Superintendence of Mr. Lee in'the '80's.
She of course would not have known
Chemawa asthe same school

Braves last Friday could have sent this

would have been acceptable. "We have

It certainly was a great game from
our way of looking at it. Haight was
there with the goods and was supported
in good style. Onl)' once did a Willam
ette man reach third base, but Haight
proved master of the situation and pull
ed himself out of the only tight place of
the game. At no other time during the
game did the boys from W. U. have as
good a chance to score. Our boys plav
ed their positions well and if they will
take more interest and put seme ginger
in coaching the base-iunners we will be
better satisfied. Larsen made two runs
by squeeze plays. Benjamin received
an injury to his hand while running
bases and Teabo was called from short
to. do the catching stunt. We play the
strong team from U. Angel College to
morrow and expect to give them a hard
game. "
