We are all glad that examinations
are over.
Miss Evelyn Woods went to Brooks,
Tuesday, for a brief visit.
Miss Bertha Boyd is the latest addi
tion to our clerical force in tne office.
She is from Haskell.
The Senior girls had an attack of
the "giggles" on Tuesday afternoon.
What was it all about?
Violet Bourner arrived at Chemawa
last Sunday afternoon and her many
friends were glad to see her.
Harry Jones stood highest in the
senior quarterlJest. Manuel Swanson
stood hightst in the Junior class.
We had all our grades read out in
chapel on last Friday Our deportment
marks were read out, too. Were you
"good, bad, or indifferent"?
It is said by some of the girls from
the small girls' home, if you look at
the keys of their piano they'll go down.
I hey mean it has a very loose action.
Mr. Henry Larsen, brother of " ur"
Mr. Larsen, dropped in upon us Wed
nesday evening for a visit. J'e had
been up about Mill City looking into a
land deal.
Tonight our boys are to play Pacific
College a game of basketball on the
home floor. This is one of the series of
games of the Willamette Valley Basket
ball League. .
By an oversight the double-header
game of basketball between Silverton and
Chemawa, which was pulled ff on the
home floor, was not reported in the last
issue of the American. Our boys defeat
ed the Silverton lads by the score of 30
to 13, while our girls suffered defeat in
the score of 13 to 7.
Harry Stone arrived at. the school last
Sunday from Garberville, California, and
is now a member of our printing force.
Harry is a half-brother of John McCush,
who was a member of our staff. John
at the present time is "holding a case"
in the office of a paper in Fortuna, Cali
fornia, and is making good.
On last Friday night our boys faced
the strong McMinnville College team .on
our floor. It was a hot game from start,
to finish, but the team work of our boys
told, and the fiist half ended with the
score standing 20 to 13. In the second
half the McMinnville boys seemed to be
more accurate in hitting the basket
than our boys, and the game ended with
the score standing 34 to 31 in our favor.
INDIANS PATROL FORESTS.
With a field force of two assistants,
James Stuart, a Nez Perce Indian, is
establishing an effective forestry bureau
to manage the Indian timber lands on
the Nez Perce reservation in Idaho.
With 32,000 acres scattered over the
reservation, the three men are required
to patrol the forests, prevent tre-passing
and guard the forests from fire. The
field force is' kept busy watching tres
passers and a recent patrol has shown
that timber thieves prey on thn Indian
forests. Ex
