Chemawa Indian School. Cbemawa is located on the main line of the Southern Pacific railroad five miles north of the City of Salem, the capitol of Oregon. It is the only Indian industrial school in the north west corner of the Unit ed States where you can get an industria education. Many Indian young men, who tvere graduated from Chemawa, have ;ood positions as blacksmiths, mill men, ailors, engineers, electricians, farmers, md many other businesses earning a ood living for themselves. The Oregon Electric R. R., which has ixteen trains daily between Salem and ; 'ortland, passes through Chemawa. In point of location, climate, resources, anitation and environment, Chemawa is , inexcelled. Its grounds are covered 1 rith roses, are extensive and dotted with all Oregon firs, which are green the en ire year. i The school has been. called "The Rose ' chool." It has 341 acres of as fine ag ' icultural land as there is in the United tates. Has over 40 acres of prolific or bard and the fruit of this is very abun ; ant, producing enormous quantities. ! All pupils must be at least, one urth Indian; healthy and of good oral character. . !. All new pupils must be fourteen ars of age or over. '. If you live on a reservation or are ider the supervision of an Agent or Superintendent, you must apply to him for transfer and railroad . tickets. This should be done.immediately and write the Superintendent of Chemawa that you have done so. 4. If you are not on a reservation, you should write Supt. Edwin L. Chalcraft, Chemawa, Oregon, and tell him about yourself, age, tribe, . etc. He will then send you application blanks and order for tickets, if you are eligible for enroll ment. 5. Chemawa has an Industrial equip ment and facilities, surpassed by none and equaled by few schools iji the Ser vice. The trades taught are. as follows: The girls are taught to .be good house-keepers, to which isadded special instruction in Dressmaking, Tailoring and Nursing. The School has a Domes tic Science Department. TJieboys are taught Farming, Dairying, Gardening, Carpentering, Wagonmaking, Black smithing, Shoe and Harness Making, Tailoring, Baking, Steam and Electrical Engineering, and Plumbing. 6. Chemawa has exceptional advan tages for giving instruction in farming, dairying, gardening and in the care of orchards, and with her engineering facilities is unequaled. 7. The Chemawa Band has a reputa tion extending over the entire Pacific Coast. Boys who have had band in struction in other schools are especially desired to continue their music at Che mawa.
