Miss Leader is away on her vacation.
Mrs. Broom! was out from Salem on
Monday to visit with her children.
Mr. Larsen had a number of boys
busy on the lawns Tuesday morning.
Ed Morrigeau has been busy during
the week doing repair work in the shce
shop. Miss Evelyn Woods returned a few
days ago from her trip to Tillamook
County:

Miss Steponeck is now at Newport en
joying the scenery and salty ozone-of
that delightful place.
Mr. Swaboda, our harness makei, and
his family departed Sunday for Newport,
where they will rusticate for a week or
two. '
The office was minus electric lights
for about 24 hours, but on Monday new
connections were made by Mr. Van Tas
sel and his boys.
Our gardener, Mr. Westley, departed
early Tuesday morning for a trip to the
Coast where he will spend ' a part of his
annual leave of absence.
The band gave us an enjoyable con
cert Sunday evening. From the num
ber of people gathered about the band
stand there remains no doubt that the
concert was appreciated.
There was a slight frost Monday morn
ing, according to Mr. Westley, our gar
dener. Such weather performances are
almost unheard of in Oregon at this sea
son of the year, but this certainly is an
unusual, year everywhere.
Miss White, one of our teachers who
is now enjoying her annual vacation,
arrived home Monday evening from a
visit to the Sound country and the Seat
tle exposition. She reports having
had an enjoyable time while away.
Chemawa has a very heavy students'
mail at present on account of so many
pupils having gone home who are writ
ing to friends at the school. The postcard
traffic is the heaviest. It is nice for those
at home to remember their school friends.
It is impossible for anyone who has
not been through the small girls' home
since it was remodeled and repaired to
realize how nice it is there now. The
new plaster and oiled floors give the
placean elegant appearance from founda
tion to attic.
Miss Florence Hutchinson has resign
ed and last Saturday evening took her
departure for her home in Seattle. She
had been at Chemawa for seven years in
capacity of clerk, the last few years being
employed in the office as head clerk, and
in every way proved herself most effici
ent. Many friends in Chemawa wish
her success in whatever she may under
take in the future.
Mr. H. C. Bowen, who for more than
a year and ahalf was our industrial
teacher, made the school a very brief
visit last Sunday afternoon with his
uncle. and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Crossman.
The latter gentleman and his wife are
touring the great west and are from Bos
t(n, Mass. They like this country very
much. Mr. Bowen now has a good po
sition as conductor with the Pullman
car Co. and at present is on the run
between Portland and Green River, Wyoming.
