MERITED PRAISE.
Our band played at Stayton for the
Fourth of July celebration and in the
general write-up or the "doing" on that
occasion the following paragraph ap
peared in the Stayton Mail of July 9th;
Too much praise cannot be said of the
Indian boys from the training school at
Chemawa Arriving here late in the
afternoon from their long drive, 23 miles
from the school, the band, after a short
rest and some refreshments at theCirand
Central hotel gave a concert on the street
that lasted for more than a half hour.
After the concert they went to the
picture show operated by the Edisonia
Moving Picture Co. They were up
bright and early Saturday morning and
marched at the head of the parade, play
ing patriotic airs. They discoursed
music at different places in town through
out the day and till late at night; leav
ing for the school again early Sunday
morning. A great deal of credit is due
to Bandmaster Charles Larsen for their
efficiency in handling music. The' are
a gentlemanly, well mannered set of
boys and will long be remembered by
those whom they came in contact with.
In the afternoon, the ball game be
tween Stayton and the Indian team from
Chemawa, drew more than a thousand
people. The Indians won the game
easily with a score of 11 to 5. Teabo,
the famous Indian pitcher who went
east a few years ago and joined the St.
Louis nationals was on the mound here
and had the Stayton team completely at
his mercy. After the ball game came
the foot, races, wheelbarrow race, etc.,
and the boys from Chemawa were
successful in most of these events.

Mrs. Brewer was in Salem on Wed
nesday. -
Miss Earlougher went to town last
Wednesday.
William Towner of Siletz is here spend
ing the commencement week.
We missed Esther Napoleon's beautiful
voice in the choir last Sunday.
The dining hall was decorated quite
artistically for Commencement week.
Roses are still in bloom at Chemawa
although not so' plentiful as last month.
Henry Dillstrom made the ice cream
for Mr. Henderson during Commence
ment week.
We are all glad tos e Johnnie Beyers'
smiling face again. He was in the hos
pital for a few days.
Rev. Goudge of Salem presented the
diplomas to the class of '09 on their
graduation last night.
Mr. Henderson does a flourishing
