History of the Class of 1909.

The class of 1909 has twenty-one mem
bers and represents seventeen different
tribes. The tribes represented are the
Puyallup, Walla Walla, Simpsian, Sho
shone, Washoe, Skagit, Pueblo, Clatsop,
Modoc, Spokane, Snohomish, Klamath,
Kake, Warm Spring, Yakima, Nez Perce
and Alaska.
We organized our class in our Junior
year, elected our officers and chose our
motto "Victory, Labor's Crown," and se
lected purple and gold as our class colors.
And now a few words regarding each
member.
Levi Sortor, the president of the class,
entered the school in 1895, a very little
boy at that time. His home was in
Washington. He is a good farmer, hav
ing devoted his time to the study of
Agriculture. Most of you know of him
as a good all-around athlete He. has
won many honors in the various bthletic
contests and portc. As a debater he
has alo distinguished himself, winning
the victory for liis Literary Society in
nearly every debate in which be has
taken part.
Thomas McCully entered the school
from Alaska in 1899. He worked in
.the blacksmith .shop for a number of
years, but. is now learning the engineer
ing trade. He is an athlete of no. small
ability. He likes music is a member of
the choir and has appeared in solo work
at our entertainments. He has a fine
baritone voice and is one of the most
popular students in the school.: .
Fred Lewis entered the school in 1899.
He is from Alaska,' his father, Wm.
Lewis, and his mother, being among the
earliest Chemawa, students. Fred, left
the school in 1903, but returned in 1906.
He is a good mathematician and stands
very high in his class and shop work.
He is an engineer. .. ... .
Clarence Lewis, Fred's brother, is one
of our brightest boys. He is the young
est boy in the class and has stood near
the head all through his academic work.
He is one of the best' mathematicians
'Chemawa has ever had. He will be an
engineer and has had charge of the heat
ing of the school building.
Michel Wilson is well known by all
interested in sports. He has been a
member of the relay team for two years
and alo a member of the football and
basketball teams. He has considerable
