OUR BAND AT CHAUTAUQUA. It was on a Monday that six of our party, three cooks, drum major and two band members started for Gladstone Park. It was their duty to go there first and make all the arrangements for the whole party. In the afternoon the rest of the party arrived and found things in a very good condition. The next day we were on the program for three concerts. All were given and from, the very start great praise was given us by the directors of the Chau tauqua. All of the other days we were on for two concerts excepting Sunday, and only one sacred concert was .given Sunday. We always had the whole morning to ourselves with the exception of a detail made each day to carry wood and meet the train for provisions. We spent our spare time in the morning playing ball, 'long hfcir vs. ball heads," until it was hot and we were all tired, then we would go off for the river for what pleasure was there. After dinner we would get read7 for the first concert, which was at 1:15 in the afternoon, and after the concert were off to the river again and then we would come back just in time to see the ball game. They had good games there nearly every day. After our second concert, which was at 7:15, we would enjoy the different pro grams. There were many interesting programs given there. We had the pleas ure of hearing the Knickerbocker quar tet, tne best in the state of California; the Keller sisters, a great soprano vocal ist and pianiste; Packard, the cartoonist; Montavilla Flowers, the elocutionist, and there was not a person on the program that can be too highly praised. Joe Dillstrom was the cook, Simon Mathews and Eugene Williams washed the dishes.
