Andy Walker is a frequent visitor to the different farmers now-a-days. Mrs. Broom, of Salem, was here visit ing her children the first part of the week. Mrs. Segun was up from Portland last week to see her. children, who are students here. . Mr. Van Tassel and family are now occupying rooms in the employes' new quarters. Joe Wiggins has been elected captain of the baseball team for next year and Amos Smoker assistant. Some rain fell here Saturday and Sun day which was greatly needed by the fruit growers of this valley. John Brown and Willie Mose attended a party given at the home of Mrs. Noren, who lives near the school. All of the band instruments are hav ing cases made for them. Quite a num ber have already been made. The small boys seem to enjoy caring for the rose bushes and lawn around the south end of the industrial building. . Harry Queachpalma and Philip Purns went up to Mr. Westley'3 place Sunday and returned with a pail full of cherries. The band has just received .two cor net solos, Old Kentucky Home and Le Secret, and one cornet duet, Royal Guests. As the strawberries are about all picked the small boys will now wait un til the raspberries and Loganberries get ripe, which are next in order. Why is it that the reporters quit hand ing in items from their shops? It keeps one or two typos busy all week getting enough news to fill the columns of the American. The boys who have been attending the Y. M. 0. The small girls are cleaning up their building so it will be in a condition to move into as soon as it is finished. Mrs. Mann and her daughter flattie have been doing a great deal of work in the sewing room during the past week. Miss Evelyn Woods finished house cleaning on Tuesday, which was a great relief to her, as she was busy at the task for several days. Milton George and Louis Pel litier shingled a barn for Mr. Page, one of our neighboring'farmers, during the weejt, and Lee Evans and Haynes Bateman art; painting it. Several of the boys are now working out for the farmers in the country. They take turns of a week, or two weeks, which gives each one an opportunity to gt the benefit which comes from working out. They are making hay and picking cherries and berries.
