Dora Clausen was in Salem on Tues
day to be fitted with glasses.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith and son, Warren
Grant, returned to board at the Mess on
Sunday.
A tennis court is being located in the
rear of the Superintendent's cottage.
Now for many a victory or defeat.
Mr. and Mrs. Woods and daughter
Kvelyn have nioved into the west cottage
formerly occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Moran.
The Black Cat baseball league is ''me
owing" this week with Dr. Lieurance for
leader. Now should a White Dog league
come along, they would soon be up a tree.
Mr. En right makes a good score-keeper
for the baseball , games. The leagues
have a score book "in which permanent
record is kept of the games and individ
ual players .
Mrs. Donald P. Campbell, Miss Lene
Campbell and Mrs. Smith were visitors
at the Open Air Sanitarium on Monday.
They found some of the patients in their
individual cottages, some in the recrea
tion cottages, while others were basking
in the sun outside.
In the relay race try-out ori Tuesday,
Dennis Harnden, Ralph Allen, Fred
Bain and Tom Powers came walking in
after the try-out had been forgotten.
The weak should be kept on :i broth diet.
Eighteen boys came in at the first and
are now on the beefsteak table.
Howard C. Bowen, who for the last
two years has been our very efficient in
dustrial teacher and a most faithful em
ploye in all school interests, left on Tues
day morning for Eastern Oregon where
he has been appointed to the . Forestry
Service at a salary of $900 per annum..
Chemawa's good wishes go with him.

Mr. Woods is a very busy man these
days, bobbing around from one place to
another overseeing the work on the boys'
new gym, new domestic science building,
girls'' old dormitory, coal house, and
other repairs and improvements, besides
looking after the work in the carpenter
shop. In the meantime the carpenter
apprentices are gaining valuable instruc
tion by actual work.
One of the greatest events atChemawa
occurred on Monday evening when Dr.
Lieurance showed his sporting ability by
throwing Philip Moss of Montana in 2
min. 48 sec. in a wrestling bout; second
bout, three minutes, draw. The Doctor
is walking around with his hat on the
side of his head and a chip on his shoulder
and hunting for some one to knock it off.
Up to date nobody has volunteered to
. tackle the contract.
LOCALS
Mr. Mann went to Portland, Tuesday,
on official business.
The flag will be flying half mast for
thirty days on account of the death of
ex-Secretary of the Interior Hitchcock.
. Frank Wheeler, father of Abe Wheeler,
came over from Grande Ronde the other
day to see his son, who has been ill. Mr.
Wheeler was accompanied by his brother,
Jesse.
Alex Cajete and Luther Clemmens are
practicing a duet which we hope will be
given at our next entertainment. Alex
plays the clarinet and Luther plays the
baritone. Both boys are good players.
We are looking forward to an enter
tainment to be given by the Seniors in
the near future.., It certainly should be
a good one as nearly all of the seniors
are exceptionally good along the line of
music and recitation.
