Mr. Swartz is now in charge of the

Frank Cox has entered the engineering
department.
Manuel Swanson is engineer on the
morning list.
William Ingram spent Friday evening
at the school.
Mr. Larsen spent Saturday in Portland
with his brother.
The pie house is still patronized by most
of our five-mile runners.
Mr. and Mrs. Fairchild were here from
Siletz last week on a visit.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith are again board
ing at the Employes' building.
The band just ' received a number of
religious and sacred selections.
Mr. Henderson treated the Mess club
to ice cream on Easter Sunday.
Ida Johnson finished her sergeant uni
form, doing a neat piece of work.
Mrs. F. W. Steusloff, cousin of Miss
Skipton, was out from Salem, Monday.
The Easter dinner given by some of the
girls to their brothers was quite a success.
The girls' cheerful voices were greatly
missed at the ball game last Saturday.
Albert LaChapelle was visited by
friends from his home last Sunday
afternoon.
The band boys still enjoy playing
basketball these evenings when they
Have nothing to do.
The marching of the girls last week to
Sunday school was very good, as they all
appeared in their uniforms.
Lee Evans is still improving in play
ing on the slide trombone. He will soon
be able to take the second chair of that
section.
Mr. Henderson borrowed Michel Wil
son's Edison Phonograph and enjoyed a
little music at his own home Sunday
evening. ' .
James Moses is still on the sweepers'
detail at Mitchell Hail, which goes to
say that he can certainly keep the build
ing clean.
Why is it that each department does
not elect a reporter and let your shop be
heard from in the '.'American." It is
easy to do. '
Mrs. Mann was out Sunday afternoon
with her kodak Wa expect to see a fine
lot of postals at the South cottage in the
near future.
Miss Skipton received a postal from
Hazel Picard, who states she is glad to
get home but, is somewhat homesick for
Chemavva.
Harry and Paul Queachpalma were
invited to an Easter dinner given by
William Westley, son of our gardener,
John Westley.
Miss Skipton took Lizzie Martin and
Ida Johnson out to Old Chemawa for
a walk last Sunday and they returned
with many flowers.
The first team played a game with a
picked team from our school, as no sec
ond team has yet been organized, which
ended with a victory for the first team.
. Spring is just about here. Nearly all
kinds of wild flowers are in bloom, most
of the trees have turned green with their
new leaves and the fruit trees white or
pink with their blossom, which makes
us wish that now was the time for our
vacation.
