Miss Troutman went to Salem, Tues
day. Mr. Fleming was out from Sajem,
Tuesday.
Miss Voilet Berner went to Portland,
Saturday, on land business.
Miss Evelyn Woods spend Sunday
with her parents at Uhemawa.
A letter was received from Willie
Minor, He is a member of the class '97
and is now at North Yakima, Wash.
': Thomas Downie, a former, baseball
star of Chemawa, is the captain of the
Sah Diego team, It is a winter league
and his team is in the lead.
There is a new style of caps in use
here now by the boys with bumps on
the back of their heads, The cap is
small and will just fit the bump where
it is worn.
County President J. J, Swartz hag
been with us with his blackboard and
colored crayons, and his illustrated talks
have been a feature of every program.
Mr. Swartz -is a Government instructor
at the Chemawa Indian School, and this
was the time of his annual vacation, but
he is so interested in the organized work
of his county that he made this trip
and did this work at his own expense.
We shall long remember the privilege we
have had in having him with us in the

AN UNCORRECTED- LETTER.
The following is an uncorrected letter,
written by a boy 9 years old who has
been at Chemawa one year and four
months and never at school before;
Chemawa, Oregon,
February 8, 1909,
Dear Papa:
I am writeing my les
son today, today is good wat.her It is
sunny and warm I went over to girl
side to see Sallie on sunday Miss Doshy
read us boys and girls a story It was a
good story and all boys and girls like
the story she is going to read us boyw and
girls another story some other time wo
have our reading lesson today I am glad
to write you this letter how are you get'
ting long now days I am writeing you
this letter on monday We had enter
tain ment last weak and 18 boys had to
&a a pieoe in Miss Doshey grade lots of
other boys and girls had to pay a piece
frist grade had to say there piece out of
Christmas book all The boys and girls
had lots of fun at Chapel upon the stage
we had to speake out loud so they can
here us from the stage Miss Doshey make
us open our mouths wide ho they can hero
plan I am glad I am learning I can
read many storyg my own story now
Miss Doshey is proud that I am learning
and she likes me and Miss Newcomh likes
to and she is my matetren I write this
by meself at the school building.

The eleclric lights are being put in at
the Sanitarium by the plumbers, and are
almost finished. Barney Vincent is the
chief wire-stretcher. He says that ho is
going to be Asst. Plumber before he quits
