Marbles are all the rage these dayp. Mr? Gordon and Donna left on Tues day for Cheyenne, Wyoming, where M rs. Gordon was called by sickness in the family. The friends of Mrs, Smith will be glad to know that she is getting along nicely at the Salem Hospital and will soon re turn to duty. . Judging "from the way the Nesika Club it? practicing in the band room of Mitchell Hall we can look fur a very up-to-date entenainmem in the near future. Our basketball boys will meet the team from Independence in our gym nasium tonight, and on Monday night will try out with the Ashland Athletic Club. The latter combination is one of the strongest in the state. We sent, this week, a couple of hun dred blackberry plants to Supt. Covey of the Warm Spring school, and trust that the . plants will thrive as well in Warm Spring and give the pupils there as luscious berries as we have in Che mawa. , The plastering has been taken off of the old hospital building and the build ing-cleaned out so that - now it is ready for the carpenters and plasterers. When completed Chemawa will have one of the nicest Domestic Science departments in the service, Nannie, Valentine and Thomas Rid' dell returned to the school this week with Mrs. Howard, they having been called home concerning some court busi ness. Minnie Howard accompanied them to the school and her friend here were glad to see her looking so well. The band boys are having a broad smile these days "because they know that in a very short tin e they will have added to their number several new in struments which were purchased from the Wurlitzer Company, consisting . of clarionets, slide trombones, baritones and helicons. . , Word was received at the school on Wednesday that Frank Pierce had leen killed at South Bend that morning. Particulars are lacking. He-was working in a logging camp near there. Frank was a student of Chemawa four or five years ago, coming to the school from Cal ifornia. t Mr. Baithalow has'completed the con tiact in the installation of -th boiler, smokestack, and extension to the power house. There are yet some minor re pairs that we have to make on the old part of the plant that were not covered by the contract. When this is done the engineering department will be at a high point of efficiency. The plumbing work at the sanitaiiuni has been completed and the t lectricians under Mr. Gordon, are now busy instal ling; . electric lights in the same. The carpenters are putting the finishing touches on the doors and the painters are finishing up their part of the work. When all the plans aie carried out Chemawa will not only have a eanitaii urn that, is without equal in. the service, but will be the peer of any, in .this broad land of ours.
