Mr. Swartz arrived home the first of
the week from his annual leave of ab
Fence. The plumbers are kept warm now
days by thawing out the water pipes.
Don't let the steam pipe freeze.
If the girls were allowed Jo march out
of the dining hall when the boys do the
snow would soon be gone aroun'd the
dining hall.
Albert Samuels and Chas. Walton
from Alaska made a sled and take turns
drawing each other around the walks.
They missthe dogs very much.
Some of the"40-degree-below-zero Alas
kans here seem to cuddle around the
radiators and shiver as much as the
native sons from the orange groves.
The wood shed crew are kept from
their hiding places these cold days by
the "we-want-wood" howls that come
from the freezing occupants of the dif
ferent cottages.
Mips Florence Hutchinson and Miss
Caroline Koester have "arrived home in
Cheniawa from their annual leave of
absence, which they passed visiting th ir
parents and friends in Seattle and
Yreka.
Silas Moon, who spent the holidays
with Chemawa friends, departed Tues
day for Tacoma, where he has a posi
tion in one of the carshops of a railroad
company. Ernest Brewer expected to
p to Tacoma at the same time, but busi
ness reasons detained him here.
The basketball men should get down
to work now, as the season is well under
way at other places. We have nearly
all of last year's players, an excellan
gymnasium, and lots of time for practice.
There is no reason why. we should not
develop a winning team in a short time.
Better team work and greater speed will
come with a little practice every evening
from the material we have to select from.
The snow storm has brought into use
a great collection of coats, furs, scarfs,
shawls, mufflers, capes, muffs, collarettes,
gloves, mittens, rubbers, and ear pro
Hectors too numerous to mention. Sev
eral blankels have been missed from dif
ferent rooms. The losers can find'them
by lifting some of the small boys out of
their big shoes, or by removing the big
boots and shoes from the farmers, dairy
men and gardeners. The young ladies
ha ve loaned out several scarfs and shawls
which are now . keepinc; the ears of
several young men from freezing.
