Ruth Liphart went to Portland, Sat urday, to see her brother and his family and returned Monday. Mrs, Underwood left for Underwood, Wash., Saturday. She spent the holi days here with Katie and Corbett. Mrs. Cloutier remembered a. number of her old friends at Chemawa on Christ mas, and sent thein pretty and appro priate gifts. The fifth grade boys visited the print ing office recently and some of them saw type lice. There are fifty-two boys in the grade. The normal fifth grade gave the re porters more news than any grade, Do you call that a school spirit or just a timely streak? Ruther Clements from Calif., and Willie and Avery Jones from Grande Ronde were admitted since the lastissue of the "American". Mrs. Brewer treated her kitchen force to taffy New Years morning, and Miss Skipton's dining hall girls in the after noon. The boys and girls enjoyed the treat very much. The reporters were lucky enough to come around for news in the kitchen while Mrs. Brewer and Miss Skipton were making their New Year's candy. Ask them how did they like the candy. Mrs. Campbell received a very hand some piece of Filipino embroidery from Miss Hultman, a former teacher, who is affectionately remembered by all those who were here while she was one of our teachers, Bessie Boles spent a couple of days at Chemawa last, week visiting friends, She is now staying at Forest Grove, at which place .she is studying piano.
