CAVE DWELLERS.
(Special Dispatch to The Journal.)
Husum, Wash., Dec. 5. -It is an es
tablished fact that at one time there was
a tribe of Indian cave dwellers in Klick
itat County. On Leo Brune's ranch, five
miles north of Grand Dalles, on the
Columbia river, there are several large
caves in which the Indians wintered their
ponies and themselves. These caves are
very, large.eaeh one being roomy enough
to accommodate a dozen ponies besides
their owners, which from all indications
were made use of for years, Mr. Brune.
employs old Indian John oh his ranch
who has been a faithful servant for over
30 years, and who relates a great deal
of unpublished history. Old John is
over 80 years of age, and claims relation
ship to the cave dwellers in this county
of long, ago.
Fall training for track men is very
essential; especially for new men. If
one has not been in training theprevious
year, he should by all means do some
fall training. For one who. has not had
training the previous year, fall work .is
almost as good as if he had trained before,
It is the only . thing that can put him in
shape for the following spring. Of course
if he is in football U will not he possible
for him to trainon the track hut it would
be a great thing for him if he expects to
be on the top notch in the spring. There
i nothing better for track men than
cross-country running in the fall and
early winter. Whitman Pioneer.
