SOCIETIES
Y. M. C. A.
The members of the Y. M. C. A. held
their usual interesting. meeting Wednes
day evening. President Eugene Wil
liams conducted the meeting, which was
largely attended. Several young men
joined the association. The speakers of
the evening were Loulin Brewer, Albert
Garry and Eugene Williams. The sub
ject war, a0ur Religious Duties." Wal
ter Haight and Joseph Dillstrom were
elected to represent the association at the
ninth annual Convention of Oregon and
Idaho, which takes place at McMinnville,
Friday, Dec. 4, to Sunday, Dec. 6. The
programme was as follows: Song, uRock
of Ages," members;Prayer, Albert Garry ;
Song, "Jesus is Calling;" "Our Religious
Duties," Loulin Brewer, Albert Garry
and Eugene Williams; Song, "At the
Cross;" Business discussion; Prayer,
Walter Haight.
Progressive.
The Progressive Society met in room
No. last Thursday. The secretary call
ed the roll and there being a few mem
bers absent after the roll was called and
there being no old business we went on
to plet the following officers: Presi
dent, Albert Scott; Vice-President, Geo.
Home; Secretary, Moses Alvarado; Ser-ent-at-arms,
Ernest David; Treasurer,
Ed. Evans; Reporter, John Miller. A
few of the officers gave short speeches.
We then heard a few remarks from the
erictic. There being no program, we
adjourned.
Brevities
Fred Wright is working at the baker
shop.
There are lots of new pupils coming to
school. L. D.
Jennie Luke says she is going to learn
dressmaking. V. B.
There will be some new pupils coming
from California next month J. H.
Mr. Bowen and his force ' of boys are
setting out rose sprouts over at the Sani
tarium. Matilda Gibeau is now cooking for the
football boys and she is doing some fine
cooking. A. B.
Some .of the girls went for a walk last
Sunday chaperoned by ,Miss White and
Miss Bender. N. S.
James Joe says he likes his work in
the garden very well. He is one of the
best workers in the garden. H. J.
The painters have finished the first
coat of oil in the new gym. and will soon
be ready to put on the hard oil finish.
The engineer boys are now laying the
steam pipe, in their instruction room. All
are anxious to know who will put the first
fire in the new boiler.
The sewing room ! girls are almost
through with the McBride'Hall girls'
new uniform dresses. Soon they will
start on the small girls' uniforms, which
will be easier to make.
The sewing room girls began drafting
this week. Each girl has her drafting
day. On Monday, Katie Henry; Tues
day, Clara Guyette; Wednesday, Matil
da John; Thursday, Alice Bettles; Fri
day, Ida Johnson.
