6 THE CHEMA SOCIET I E S Y. W. C. A. The members of the Y. W. C. A. held their regular meeting last Wednesday evening. The roll was called to which members responded with Bible verses. A song was sung, entitled "Calvary," and the minutes of the previous meeting were read. The members of the Y. M. C. A wished to spend the evening with us and they were cordially welcomed to do so. Miss Ella Brewer then led in prayer. There was no special leader appointed to lead so it was called a raily meeting. The president called for volunteers to say a few words. They had a season of prayer and the business was transacted. Then we sang our closing song, "Blessed Be the Tie that Binds." We then repeated Our watch word and adjourned. Nonpareil. The Nonpareils met in their usual place or meeting last Thursday evening. The house was called to order by the president, after which the roll was call ed. The minutes of previous meeting were read and stood approved. New and old business was called for and settled, which took so much time that the program, with the exception of the opening address and the phonograph concert, was dropped. . We then had some remarks from our7 critic, after which . we adjourned. R amona. The Ramona Literary Society, com posed of young ladies from the 5th and 6th grades, reorganized Thursday even ing, October 21st. The officers elected were: Pres., Annie Johnson; vice-president, Helen Fairfield; secretary, Matil- VA.. AMERICAN da Gibeau;' treasurer, Lenove Rainville; sergeant-at-arms and reporter, Caroline Wright The program committee was composed of Alvina Dale, Jennie Luke and Alice Bittles. The subject -oi de bate was, "Resolved, that there is more pleasure in country life than city life." The affirmative was upheld by Caroline Wright, Violet Brown, Annie Souvigner; while Virginia Garry, Louise Moss, and Maggie Wynaco had the negative. . 1 . Brevities r Sarah Brewer is taking violin lessons from Mr. Turney. Dora Clauson is the teacher of the Glh grade normal class. Louise Johnson has entered the hos pital to take nure training. J. K. Louise Moss is a very good cook in the domestic science depaitment. Lena Ashue is taking lessons on the Mandolin and is getting along very nicely. ' A tter was. received from Hazel But ler raying that she will be back to Che mawa soon. There are manv new members in the choir this year. We hope this year will be a sucessful one for the choir A. M. We are all glad to have Christina Victor with us again 'after having spent a few months' vacation at home M. G, Minnie Picard and Dollie Case helped make eleven cakes Monday morning to be used-for the Y. W. C. A. social on Wednesday evening. M. L. I am looking forward for my brother, Alfred Blodgett, and Edward Picanl some time next week. We hope thev reach Chemawa safely F. B.
