Dr, Lieurance spent Thursday in Port
land.
Prof. J. B. Horner and family, of the
Oregon Agricultural College, visited
Miss Skipiton and Chemawa friends last
Friday.
Cbemawa's roses are still blooming
abundantly and are the admiration of
all Salem and outside visitors who pass
through our grounds.
Haynes DeWitt has returned to school
to finish his trade as carpenter. He
brought with him two bright pupils,
Frank and Sarah Peravtrovich.
Sarsfield Cavanaugh, of Anacortcs,
Wash., was a visitor of . Chemawa,
Wednesday, and brought with him Leon
Littleman, a promising pupil.
Miss Frances Howard, who was tem
porarily filling the position of assistant
clerk in the office, is now in the Citv
Engineer's office in the State House,

Mr. Henschell and his apprentice,
John Mason, have completed the
elevator in the commissary, which has
been so badly needed for many years.
Miss Noble and Miss Irene Campbell
left Thursday evening for Spokane to
attend the wedding of Donald Campbell,
which' takes place Saturday, Sept. 26.
Mr. Campbell left today to be present at
the nuptials.
Quite a number of Chemawa employe.
attended the State Fair last week and
all professed a good time. The races
were exceptionally good, and the horse,
"College Maid," was one of the winning
favorites and crept into the good graces
of all by her clever tricks.
Miss Gertrude Brewer made a flying
trip to Portland Tuesday,
Some friends of Mr. Albert, of Salem,
visited Chemawa Wednesday.
The office is in receipt of a letter
from James Sloan, who is doing well at
Ronan, Montana, since vacation.
Mr. V, Watters and family, of Corval
lis, visited the school Monday and while
here were the guests of Mis M. 0. Skip
ton. Miss Maude R. Franks, of Portland,
Ore., who was formerlv in the office at
Chemawa, visited Salem during the
Fair and her Chemawa friends were
pleased to see her.
Mr. Venter, who has been shoe and
harness maker at the school, leaves soon
tcr spend his vacation in the East with
his family. Mr. Woodin, who has been
working at the school, also leaves for the
East.
Mrs A. Coe, of McMinnville, Oregon,,
visited the school Thursday afternoon
on her way to Portland, and brought
back Sallie, Nellie and Christine Bos
well, who have beeu visiting at her
home.
A delightfu- letter has just been re
ceived from Walter Miller and Harry
Queahpalma, giving an account of how
they spent their vacation, and statin ;
that they will be back on time when
school opens,
Mr, Campbell made a quick trip to
Spokane to be present at the wedding of
his son5 Donald, which takes place Sat
urday evening. Donald's many friends,
at Cnemawa wish him good luck and
much happiness
Mr. George Henschell, who has been
been filling the position of wagon maker
at the school, has. resigned, said resigna
tion to take effect October 1st. Mr. and
Mrs. Henschell intend to return east to
visit relatives in Wisconsin.
