Mrs. Bullard and her son are having
a delightful time camping with Mr. and
Mrs. L. Swaim and family in the coun
try. , Michel Wilson writes he will return this
week, bringing a new pupil with him.
He says h has had a delightful vaca
tion, but will be glad to get back to Old
Chemawa, v
Mr. Westley and the industrial boys
have harvested the pears and hauled in
12 wagon-loads of the luscious fruit for
the kitchen department, and there is
h til 1 more to follow.
Mr. Turney is quite lonely in the
printing office this week, as his entire
force has gone to the hop yards, but they
left the office in good shape for getting
the paper out on time.
Addie Cameron is enjoying her vaca
tion at Chinook, Wash., and in a letter
that she writes states that there are a
number of pupils whom she thinks will
come to the school when she returns.
Walter McGibbons writes us that he
has been spending his vacation firing at
a shingle mill, but that the mill has shut
down owing to a surplus of shingles.
Walter writes that he is looking around'
for another pupil to bring back with
him.
The pictures taken of the school by
Mr. R. Loewenfeld, of .Salem, were very
good, and the lantern slides of some of
the views were the subject of favorable
comment by pupils and employes who
witnessed them for the first time Friday
evening. .

Miss Irene Campbell left Monday to
play tennis. Miss Campbell is sched
uled to play in the la dies' singles, la
dies' doubles, and mixed doubles with
the Multnomah Tennis Club on the
Multnomah Club grounds, Portland.
Her many friends wish her good luck.,
Joe Dillstrom and Robert Cameron
are the cooks at the Jones yard, while
Nels Charles and Albert Scott look after
the culinary department at the Simon
yard. The boys at both camps think
they have the best cooks, and when vis
ited early in the week both camps seem
ed to be living on the fat of the land.
Dr. Edward Lieurance has arrived
from Warm Springs and taken charge
of Chemwa's Hospital Department.
Chemawa is fortunate in having the
doctor, as he is enthusiastic in his pro
fession and will devote his energies to
perfecting Chemawa's Open Air Sani
tarium and Hospital Department.
Miss Gertrude Brewer is home again
after spending a pleasant vacation with
relatives in Tacoma. Both Mrs. Teabo
and Miss Brewer report excellent times
in the Sound country and declare the
clams as fine as ever, which makes those
from that section of the country long to
attend a clam bake, and to experience
the delightful outings on the water. ;
Chemawa hopes to be able to play the
Carlisle football team during or immedi
ately after the Christmas holidays. Car
lisle plays the Washington State Uni
versity in Spokane on Christmas Day
and the Multnomah Athletic Club of
Portland is trying to arrange a game
with them New Years, and we are try
ing to arrange a game either between
Christmas and New Years or after New
Years If Carlisle accepts our offer it
will be a battle royal of Western brawn
against Eastern training. .
