among students with greater education,
the natural simplicity, and grace of their
actions, won far more applause than
better skilled but less natural art would
have done.
Much credit for the success of the
"Japanese girl" is due to Mrs. W. P.
Campbell, director of the Operetta, and
her daughter, Miss Irene, who was the
efficient accompanist on the piano.
Many of the parents of the students
visited the school during the commence
ment exercises, coming from nearly all
the states of the west.
A number of very prominent people
of the state were guests at the exercises
last evening; among them were Con
gressman W. 0. Hawley, Father Datin,
Hon. C. EL Dye and wife, Mrs. Eva
Emory Dye, Hon. H. E. Cross and wife
of Oregon City, and Hon. P. H. D'Arcy
of this city.

LOUISE F. MURRAY.
We, the class of 1908, take pleasure in
welcoming you to the last exercises we
shall ever perform as a class and pupils
of the Chemawa Indian Training School.
We have completed our course of stud'
at Chemawa, we hope, with credit
and honor to ourselves and to our in

been together since we entered the Fifth
Grade; one or two others entered the
class later.
This afternoon we will try to show
you a little of what we have learned by
faithful and conscientious work and we
hope to show our appreciation to those
wTho have been our teachers.
Only those who have toiled daily with
us as our instructors, who have watched
our progress year by year, who have
spurred us on to stronger efforts and
