Our first team was defeated at Salem
last Saturday by the Alco Club of Al
bany. The scre was 6 to 5 inlOinnings.
The Amateurs feel the loss of their 3rd;
baseman, Ernest David, who is out on
account of illness.
Silas Moon, from Tacoma, Wash,, is
hero visiting some of his friends. While
here he will play, short-stop for the
Chicago Derbys,
Lewis Sanderson and Walter Haight
will not be in the 5-mile race which is to
held on Commencement. This means a
little show for two others, as they aro
two of the four best 5-mile runners in
the school.
On, Monday evening the Amatuers
defeated the Chicago Derbys to the tune
of 2 to 0, Willinm Watkins pitched tho
first shut-out game of the season, allowed
the Derbys five scattered hits while Mat
thews was touched up for seven hits. The
game was fast, there being only a few
errors on both sides. There was nothing
doing until the fifth inning when Wat-.
kins crossed the plate for the first seoro.
Not until the last inning.did the Amatuers
add another score when, Lane netted one
more.. ... Watkins was in fine co ndition,
The Derbys played a fast game .hut fail
ed to hold the fast aggregation down.
The Big Zs crossed bats with with
their old rivals, the Amatuers, last Tues
day, in which the Amatuers came out
victorious once more. The score was 13
to 3. The game was slow and tir.esome
on accouut of the errors made by both
sides. Ori the second inning the Ama
tuers batted Darnell out of the box, who
was relieved by Poland, who was also'
batted hard. The Araatures pulled off
9 hits, while Graham allowed them 4.
With a strengthened team by adding
Teabo, Larsen and Moon to their team
the Chicago Derbys won over the Big Zs
by a score, of 5 to 3. Peazzoni was in tho
box for the Big Zs and Washoe for tho

Mrs. Campholl spent the day in Port
land yesterday.
Mr. Thomas Stanger, from Washing
ton state, was here several days visiting
the school.
W. 0. Slight, T, B, Burr, of Salem,
and friends from Wisconsin, visited the
various departments of the school labt
