Charles Dick won the hundred -yard
dash last Saturday.
The baseball team is practicing for the '
games at the cherry fair at Salem.
An interesting game of baseball was
played betweem two newly organized
teams last Monday evening. There were
many girls present at the game.
The Fairmounts got theirs on the
Fourth at Junction City where they
were defeated the first time this season.
The score was: Chemawa 8, Fairmounts
G. Capital Journal.
Some of the Salem boys had a game
of baseball out on the Willamette river
on July 4th. They had rafts for all the
bases and for the . various players and
officials of the game. The players had
to swim for the ball and to th3 bases.
On Monday evening a game of base
ball Was played between the Amateurs
and the Chicago Derbys Both teams
played well, this being the first game
for these teams The Amateurs won by
a decisive score of 8 to 2. Graham was
on the mound for the Amateurs and
Casey f or the -Chicago Derby s.
The Tigers were the winners of the
Rose Avenue League, it was certain
that the other teams represented in the
league had no show againsi the Tigers
for they are considered, as good as the
first team, so we are safe to give the Tyees
credit for heating them once by a score
of 1 to 0. But the other teams were not
able to take them to camp.
A game of baseball which was played
Wednesday evening by the Big Zs and
the Chicago Derbys was well played by7
both teams. It was a pitchers' .battle
throughout the game. Owing to the

splendid ; work by , the., outfielders the
score was limited to a small extent.
The Big Zs won by a score of 4 to 3.
Calvin Darnell pitched for the winning
team and Washoe for the Chicago
Derbys. The game was well attended by
both the girls and boys.

The teachers are having the pupils
prepare work for an exhibit on com
mencement. Miss Royer takes delight -in fixing her
garden by the school building. She can
be seen before school working, trimming
the rose bushes. - . '
Mrs. Campbell is busy every minute
drilling the pupils for the orations and
music for commencement and also some
music for chautauqua.
The flower beds in the school yard
were not improved. by the Fourth of July
celebration, but we hope to have them
just as good as ever in a short time.
Boys a re not a 1 1 wed around the
school building when school is not in
session. Those, who are over there at
any other time.aie breaking the rules.
Otficers, look after these disobedient
fellows.
Elinor Jordan was cutting the grass in
the deer park Wednesday.
Mr. Fickle and the boys from the 4th
and 5th grades cleaned up the lawn
around the school building Monday

The McBride Hall girls visiied the
new gymnasium last Wednesday even
ing. They came out with smiling faces
which shows that they appreciated the'
work of the carpenters.
