THE FINAL 7 EST.
In this issue of the American we pub
lish a portion of the averages of pupils
as the result of the final examinations;
in our next issue the list will be complet
ed. In the main the pupils made very
creditable averages, but they should not
rest content with merely passing or do
ing well, they should be determined to
do better in every future examination.
As Assistant Superintendent Camp
liU Tininturl mir. in nhanpl a fv' vpn-
ings ago, some of the pupils did not
make as good averages as they are cap
able of doing for the reason that they
were out of school for sickness or some
other 'excusable reason. There were
others who came to Chemawa recently
and who previous to their arrival here
had enjoyed no educational opportuni
ties. For this class of students there is
some excuse, but for those who did not
take the advantage of every opportunity
afforded them there is no excuse what
ever. . , . .

The Seniors are now studying elocution .
Mrs. Royer's flower beds around the
Academic building are the best cared for.
Jasper Grant brought some lovely Cali
fornia poppies -to. the Junior and Senior
classes. '
"Oh Nicholas Hopkins"
If you want an explanation of this
ask the Seniors.
The Senior class were taken to visit
the gymnasium on Monday morning and
were delighted with the building.
Nearly every school room is .adorned
with beautiful plants and cut flowers
and the pupils enjoy them very much.
What became of the seeds planted by
the juniors in their flower bed? Are the
poor little things drowned, or only asleep?
Do you notice how Johnnie Matthew's
shoes shine? He is Mrs. Campbell's
orderly and keeps himself looking very
nice and neat.
Miss Earlougher is giving special
attention to some of the 3rd grade
pupils who failed in arithmetic and
hopes to have them ready for the fourth
grade when school opens in the Autumn.
The teachers for the 6th Normal for
the first too weeks of June are Louise
Murray, Arithmetic; Alfred Lane, Phy
siology and Geography; Wfebster Hudson,
Reading and Spelling; Tilly Souvignei,
Grammar and History.
The Fifth and Sixth Normal classes
deserve great credit for the work they
have done under the supervision of
teachers from the Junior and Senior
grades. The teachers provides for these
normal classes and they have done well
and handled their pupils splendidly.
