Tomorrow is the day for the long
distance relay race from Salem to Port
land. Our team is practicing faith
fully, and promises to give a good ac
count of itself.
Chemawa's baseball team broke even
on a double header last Saturday. The
morning game was with the University
of Oregon; they defeated us. by the score
of 10 to 1. The afternoon game was
with the Columbia University of
Portland,- which we defeated bv the
score of 3 to 2.
We are all anxiously waiting to see
the relay race which is to be run
tomorrow.
The Chemawa baseball team defeated
the Columbia University base ball team
last Saturday by a score of 3 to 2.
Chemawa played fast ball all through
the game, and Peter .Casey was the hero
of the day, pitching a good game for
Chemawa.
Peter Casey did some fine pitching
for the baseball team of Chemawa
when they played Columbia University.
Tomorrow's Great Rcrce.
The second annual relay race from
Salem to Portland will, be run tomorrow.
The, competitors will be one team, in
addition to our boys, the Portland Y. M.
C. A. will have a team the All-Salem
team7 composed of the Y. M C. A., High
School and Willamette University with
drawing from the race yesterday.
The distance is 51 3-10 miles and the
successful runner will be the man who
first passes the letter from the Governor
of O:egon into the hands of the Mayor
of Portland at Fourth & Yamhill Streets
in front of the Y. M. 0. A. building.
The start will be made from the foot of
the Capitoi steps. Chemawa .will be
represented in the various relays by the
following ten pupils:
The first lap for Chemawa will be run
by Walter Haight, a three-fourths blood
Klamath Indian from California, aged
19 years, who -will: start from the Capitol
steps and run 5 miles to the cross roads
leading from Silverton to Chemawa.
The second runner will be Louis San
derson, a half-blood Klamath Indian
from California, aged .17 years. He will
run 5-2 miles.
The third will he :un by Sam John,
a full-blood Digger Indian lad from
California, aged 19 years. He will run
5 6-10 miles.
The fourth lap will be taken care of by
Michel Wilson, full-blood Nez Perce
from Idaho, aged 21, who will carry the
letter from near Woodburn and run 5
1-2 miles to the vicinity of Hubbard,
wrhere he will hand the letter to Wil
liam Wat kins, a 3-4 blood Shoshone
from Nevada, who will run 5 1-2 miles
to Barlow.
There he will be relieved by Frank
Dan, a, full-blood Muckleshoot from
