- OUR DEPARTED FRIEND
In another column will be found lan
article on the life and death of David E.
Brewer. Our purpose in running a re
print article is to show the esteem and
respect in which Mr. Brewer was held
by men of affairs who were not connect
ed with this school. We know of no ,
better way, to do this than to re-print
the article published in the Salem
Statesman.
The life of David E. Brewe should
be an example to every young man and
woman- to youth in general. The hon
or and respect which was hown him on
every hand during life was the reward
for honesty and fair-dealing with all
the reward for those qualities and vir
tues without which the human being
cannot hope for the confidence of his
fellows or to be distinguished by them.
Mr. Brewer was not the character of
man who was long to be check-mated
by obstacles. He overcame them. He
was an unusual man in many ways and
his memory will be green for years in
the minds of those who knew him, both
at home and abroad.
