The school began afain last Friday.
Frances Swartz attends school all day.
Peter Seltice gave a nice talk last
Sunday evening.
Joe Wiggins is now working on the
industrial boys' detail.'
The Seniors and Juniors are having
examinations this week.
Frank Cox' and Gabriel Peters are
working in the woodshed.
Have you seen the blue birds? They
are here in great numbers.
Mr. Fickle arrived recently and is
now teaching in the -fifth grade.
Edward McCoy is here with his moth
er visiting his sick sister, Rachel.
Miss Iva Cox returned Monday to
California, where she is teaching. ,
Hon Edward Hirsch and daughter
were Chemawa visitors on Sunday. ,
Charlie Stensgar, from Washington
state, is apprenticed in the kitchen.
The teachers: all notice that our foot
ball boys are our very cleanest boys.
The plumbers are busy at present re
pairing the large pump in the deep well.
Dan Nichols, who was apprenticed in
the bakerv is now on the wood bovs'-de-tail.
The eighth grade were glad to wel
come Orin French, who has just returned
to school.
Mr. Mann's talk on blacksmithing was
so plain and so interesting that we all
enjoyed it.
Dean Walker and; Frank Dan were
cleaning the new hospital windows part
of this week.
Miss Evelyn Woods is kept busy now
adays practicing with a vocal club re
cently organized.

We are pleased to know that Frank
Booth is' getting along finely at Salem,
where he is working. ,
Mr.'Westley is off for his vacation,
leaving Harry Queahpalma and Galucia
Nelson in charge of his detail .
Rosy Chalifone, who was a pupil of
this school, died about a week ago at
her home in Southern Oregon.
Mrs. Theisz presented her friends with
great bunches of beautiful roses grown
out doors for a New Years present.
It is pretty hard to catch Clara Rob
inson in an arithmetic question. She
is at the head of her class in the study
of arithmetic.
The Chemawa basketball team was
defeated by the Independence team by
a score of 12 to 7 last Saturday i evening
on our own floor.
Albert Garry, Walter Haight and
Webster Hudson gave the student body
a short talk about the Convention last
Sunday evening.
The sewing room girls are said to be
so busy that they are not able to write
items, for the American. They are work
ing in earnest since New Years.
How many of our boys and girls have
read ''Black Beauty?'' Mr. Mann's
talk suggests the book and every one
who has not read it should do so.
Anna Buck is still working for Mrs.
Campbell and is doing very well. Anna's
home is twenty-five miles south jf the
arctic circle but she enjoys our Oregon
climate.
Miss Irene Campbell had the misfor
tune to slip on the sidewalk and break
her collarbone. Dr. Tucker set the
broken bone and Miss Irene is getting
along very well.
