Caroline Wright is making Jane Bai
ley a very pretty skirt.
We all enjoyed the New Year's social
in the gymnasium last week.
The Industrial boys are making a
sidewalk to the new hospital.
The Fifth and Sixth Grades have
a new teacher who came last week.
Rosie Chalifone, a , former pupil of
Chemawa, died last week at her home
in Saginaw, Oregon.
The blacksmiths organized a football
team last Monday and are now practic
ing for their game tomorrow.
The entertainments that were given
during the holidays were very interest
ing and much enjoyed by all.
Ida Johnson and Helen Fairfield
made a very delicious peach pie Mon
day in the domestic science.
The girls of the small sewing room are
working hard to finish the new sheets
for Mc Bride Hall this week.
Many of the pupil's parents spent the
holidays' here, which made the time
more pleasant for children and parents.
The sewing room 'girls will begin to
make the hickory dresses as soon as
they are through with the other dresses.
Gertrude Kettlewood took the first
prize in the Indian story contest, and
Apis Goudy and Peter Seltice the sec
ond. We all enjoyed sitting up and watch
ing the Old Year pass out and the New
Year come in on New Years eve at Mc
Bride Hall.
The engineers are anxiously waiting
for time to come for a game of basket
ball with the blacksmiths, whom thev
hope to defeat. ,
It was the first time I spent my Xra
and New Years without snow on tl
ground, and it was a very pleasant ho!
day season for me.
Mrs. Cloutier had some beautiful rf
roses in a glass on her school room tat)
today. There are roses in bloom no
on Chemawa's lawn.
Orin French, who has been away froi
school for some time, returned the firs
of the month and his many friends wei
glad to see him back,
On New Years day all the tables (
the mess were decorated with roses whic
were gathered by Mrs. Theisz and ht
girls around McBride Hall.
The old barn is rapidly being remode
ed and when completed will not only
commodious enough for all kinds of att
letic sports, but will also be picturesqiif
Some one has has said that amon
kind people we are refreshed by thei
kindness. It is true. So let us be kir,
to any one we meet. Our education i
not much without kindness.
The Sixth Gnide found the class root
not in good condition on the firs
day of school in the year of 1908. Tli
boys got in and cleaned the room ou
very nice, beginning the new year pi
erly.
We ought to congratulate the footbal
boys for the good work they have don
this season. They have only played eigl
games this season and won five of then
Chemawa expects to have a good tear:
next year and have a regular schedul
with different colleges.
The baker boys are learning thei
trade well. They are all able to pei
form duties in the bakery without in
structions. Pedro Chevio, from thi
Philippine Islands, seems to be progress
ing nicely, and is leading .his -fellow
apprentices.
