and was very much surprised to see the
sun once more. After that he used sun
flowers for his eyes. Every time they
would begin to wilt he would put fresh
flowers in the place of the withered ones.
He stayed in that condition until one
day he found a snail out hunting. He
took the snail's eyes out and placed
them in his, giving the snail the sun
flower for his eyes, which by this time
was not very good, and left him lost out
in the woods. Since then the snail has
had poor eyes. The coyote went on and
had many more adventures, hut. as he
was . always so very canning, tie always
came out ahead. As you know, the
coyote is a cumiing animal at, the, pres
ent time

We had a 'male ' quartet sing4- in the
chapel on Sunday night.
Sam McCush made a hammer in the
blacksmith shop recently.
The new path from. the hospitahto the
"gym" .is a great improvement.
Mrs. Campbell and Miss Irene 'made
a flying visit to Portland this week,
Mrs. Campbell entertained the Spo
kane Club informally on Friday even
ing. .
Violet Berner seems glad to get back
at Chemawa and her friends are glad to'
welcome her.
Miss Irene Campbell entertained Miss.
Thompson of Salem and Mr. Curtis
Co-leman f the U. of O. on Saturday.
The rain on Saturday did not interfere
with the game'as many ' Salem people
were interested and enthusiastic specta
tors. We are having some fine entertain
ments in our assembly room. Fine
music is elevating as well as pleasure
giving.
We enjoyed the musical entertainment
which was given by the Bohemian
Students' Quintette of Salem last Satur
day evening.
Miss Noble says this is the happiest
Christmas she has passed for years.
That is right.. Miss Noble, Chemawa
makes us all happy and contented. .
Colonel Randlett, in a letter to Mrs.
Campbell, sent Christmas greetings to all
of . his old friends at Chemawa and
wishes us all a happy and prosperous
. New Year.
All eyes are now turned upon the
. new hospital. It is almost ready for oc
cupancy. .We don't want any one to get
sick, but won't that hospital he a , lovely
place to be sick in?
Mr.1 Donald Campbell, of the 'Spokane
Chronicle," greatly enjoyed his visit at
Chemawa. He noticed many improve
ments and predicts a great future for
the Chemawa School.
Mr. George Varnell, the physical di
rector" of the S. A. A. C, and Joe
Malcolmson of the same club, were
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Campbell during
their stay at Chemawa.
Mr. Herbert J, Campbell, sporting
editor of the "Spokane Chronicle,'' left
Chemawa with the Spokane Athletic
Club on-Saturday night. Mr. Campbell
, is umpire for the club and officiated
. again at the Seattle game. on. New Year's
