Be polite. Never forget it even if
others are rude to you. A real gentle
man is always polite.
When girls march to the "dining tooth
the sergeants should see that they are in
good line. One of the first and most
important duties of a sergeant is to drill
her company in good marching.
It is important for every hoy and girl,
no matter how small, to set a good ex
ample to their fellow students. Indians
are great imitators and habits formed
while young will stay with us thru life.
February twenty-fifth next Chemawa
will reach her twenty-eighth mile stone.
Why not celebrate the event by the re
turn to the school of those who have been
prepared for life's work within her walls?
The American would be glad to h ear
from her ex-students as to what they
think of the idea. v '
Mrs. Duncan. McArthur, wife of Super
intendent McArthur, died at Pala, Hal.,
on Sept. 22. Mrs. McArthur had been
engaged in Indian work for a long time
and her loss to the service will be felt by
all its friends.
Mr. McArthur was Superintendent of
Siletz about three years ago. . .
By a post card to Superintendent
Chalcraft we learn that 0. R. Gillman
(Clifford Coonskin) has returned from
the Philippines and is now stationed at
Ft. Mead, South Dakota. Clifford has
at least seen the world and we trust that
he is benefited by his: experiences.
The true ''Carlisle spirit" was mani
fest on the athletic tield Saturday after
noon while the report of the Chicago
game was coming in. Could our boys
on Marshall Field have seen the student
body, and heard the yells as play after
play was pulled off, the score would
have been doubled on the Idians' side.
Belenti's good work was especially well
received and applauded. The Arrow.
